OTTAWA, ON, June 22, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philip Tanner, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Dr. Tanner specializes in international relations, humanitarian relief, project management and grants acquisitions. Since 2021, he has found much success as the founder and chief executive officer of The Grants House, providing online capacity training and digital products for non-profit and private institutions seeking resource diversification opportunities. In addition, he excels as the principal at EPIC-Consultancy Ltd., providing interim C-level executive and management services in Canada and overseas, as well as consulting to a diverse base of clients. Dr. Tanner also teaches third and fourth year undergraduates in international development.

Dr. Tanner grew up and was schooled in Asia and Africa, where his father served with the FAO for 15 years. He experienced, first-hand, the evacuation from Saigon in 1975, the invasion of the Soviets into Afghanistan in 1979, and many other historic events. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Tanner pursued an education at the University of Waterloo, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Joint Honours in political science and history, followed by a Master of Arts in public administration and international relations. Upon graduation, in 1989, he was selected by Canada's International Development Agency (CIDA) for placement in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), serving as a Junior Professional Officer (JPO) from 1989-1992. He quickly advanced to senior program officer with the UN in Lithuania in 1992-1993, establishing the first UN presence in the country and preparing its first country plan post-Soviet Union. In 1994, he continued his academic efforts at the University of Bradford, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Women's Empowerment in 1997.

From 1997, Dr. Tanner extended his passion for international development and served with numerous non-governmental organizations, such as CARE, World Vision and ChildFund Alliance. His work has been cross-sectoral with special focus on food security, disaster and conflict response, health and education and the promotion of civil-military activities. He served in such capacities as Food Security Coordinator for World Vision's (WV) Operation Lifeline South Sudan team during a war and famine, and a Country Representative setting up WV's first country office in Nepal. Between 2002 and 2010, he garnered expertise as a field director at CARE Bangladesh and the Asia regional director at CARE Canada. Dr. Tanner also worked closely with the ChildFund Alliance as a Senior Director of policy and government relations and made a significant contribution to the successful inclusion of Sustainable Development Goal 16.2.

As a commitment to his field, Dr. Tanner is active with several industry-related organizations, including a preferred service partner with the Kentro Network, an association of over 50 international development organizations, a board director of WaterAid Canada and a member of the Royal Niagara Military Institute.

Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Dr. Tanner has received multiple awards, including the Arts Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Waterloo in 2011, recognizing Waterloo Arts alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their professional field and in community and public service, and the CPSC Award for Best Infrastructure Project from the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association in 2005. He was also a nominee of the Military Institute for Canada's prestigious Vimy Award in 2019, recognizing significant contributions to democracy and peace-building.

Reflecting on a long career, he attributes much of his success to a commitment to excellence and results, the respect of diverse cultures and peoples, and sage advice from his father who said, "You cannot help everyone but you can help someone, in every project you do." And his success is grounded on his beautiful wife and two daughters. A member of the Travelers' Century Club, Dr. Tanner has travelled to and worked in over 120 countries worldwide and whether he's working in conflict areas, disaster-affected regions or in countries striving to develop, Dr. Tanner aspires to pass along his knowledge and expertise to the future generations and hopes to leave a profound legacy that will continue to incite change and progress.
