An MBA in finance, a dance lover, a doting mom, and an immigrant building a dance empire in Seattle, Deepali Jamwal wears many hats. But the one she embraces truly is that of a community leader.
Deepali is not just a dancer and a dance studio owner, for the impact of her business on every member associated with her venture, Live2Dance, goes farther and beyond.
With a mission to create a more inclusive and happy community, while bringing the much-deserved visibility to Indian arts and culture in the US, Deepali has built a home for those away from home. Her tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have had a profound impact, touched the lives of countless individuals, and created positive and healthy representation.
Today, Live2Dance homes nearly 1200 people, many of whom credit their survival in the US to it. Live2Dance has helped hundreds of people survive the pandemic and navigate all of life's challenges. More importantly, it has enabled immigrants to settle down in a new city, fight anxieties, and deal with homesickness.
Highlighting her accomplishments, Ms. Jamwal was recently awarded 'The Most Admired Global Indian' by Unified Brianz in 2023 for her contributions to building a community for immigrants in Seattle. She was also recognized among the 'Top 30 Women Entrepreneurs in 2022'. Additionally, Ms. Jamwal was included in several professional publications in 2022, including Entrepreneurs Herald, Passion Vista, Bloomberg, NY Journal, Seattle Dances, and Rites of Green.
After completing her MBA in Finance, Deepali began her career in Corporate Finance. Although she loved the corporate life, she knew that there was something special with Live2Dance that needed her attention full-time.
However, as an immigrant, she faced multiple failed attempts to get a business permit. Finally, after years of effort, she was able to open the doors to her studio in October 2019 – but COVID-19 had other plans. Just like several other small businesses, Live2Dance was forced to shut down and Jamwal lost the dance studio, despite every effort to pivot services and keep the community engaged.
After many months of heartache and uncertainty, Jamwal was able to find a new space and pull the resources together to rebuild Live2Dance from scratch. The very community that she had built, now came together stronger to build out the new space. Her mantra, "You grow a community, and that community will grow you", came true.
Live2Dance is a true example of a business that took the pandemic head on and came out stronger.
"As an MBA, I recognize one key portion of businesses that is often missing: passion. You can make a new spreadsheet or create a new strategy, but you cannot manufacture passion. I love my business because it is more than just a profit or loss statement, but a true pillar in the community. My business is a home for hundreds of students in Seattle, Washington, and the smile on their faces is more important to me than our bottom line. When a mom of a student comes and tells me that this is the first time their daughter has been off anxiety medications in 10 years because of Live2Dance, that's where my true reward is."
Her husband, Ashish Chauhan, describes Live2Dance as a microcosm of global communities packed tightly together.
