Ms. Contreras, a licensed marriage and family therapist with expertise in the biological and psychological sciences, is a mental health professional who strives to help her clients find spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health. In her roles as a supervisor and psychotherapist with her own practice, Courageous Mind Counseling, PLLC.
A leader among her peers, Ms. Contreras has been touted as the Best Therapist of the Year. Recently, as a counselor to many pastors and pastoral families, she has worked to bring mental health into the church.
Bilingual in Spanish and English, Ms. Contreras is actively trying to pioneer and advocate for more Spanish speaking therapists. She recently presented on the importance of mental health at Christ for the Nations (CFNI) in Dallas, TX and their Eden conference for YFN (Youth for the Nations). She is currently the only LMFT-S in El Paso.
Earlier in her 13-year counseling career, Ms. Contreras held positions with Foundations Counseling, LLC, and at the Texas Family Institute. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Contreras earned a Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences and psychology, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of Texas at El Paso, where she also worked as a research assistant. She went on to obtain a master's degree in marriage and family therapy from Abilene Christian University.
Ms. Contreras is a member of several important organizations relevant to her field. Among them, she is active with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, International Association for Counselling, American Family Therapists and Focus on the Family. She is also a member of the Alpha Chi and Kappa Sigma honor societies.
In her personal life, Ms. Contreras is married and has one daughter. She enjoys hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, travel and reading. She hopes to expand her practice to offer different specialties in the future.
