His tenure included successfully developing a stress management training program for the Illinois State Police, coordinating the critical incident stress teams with state police, and serving several years on the highway drug interdiction team. Mr. Martin also contributed several professional law enforcement mental health articles as a co-author. Meanwhile, his years in the military included serving as a military police officer for the U.S. Marine Corps. He missed the Vietnam War by one year.

Besides his primary career endeavors, Mr. Martin has been a semi-professional trumpet player. Among his accomplishments in music, he had the opportunity to serve as the principal trumpet player in the Saint Louis Symphony Adult Concert Band from 1999 to 2000. Civically, Mr. Martin enjoyed spending his free time as a board member and peer support advisor for the St. Louis Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team and he is currently a mental health provider for the Sangamon Valley CISM Team in Springfield, IL.

Highly educated, Mr. Martin obtained a Master of Social Work in clinical social work at Washington University in St. Louis in 1998. Additionally, he received certification through the Academy of Certified Social Workers and the National Association of Social Workers. Moreover, Mr. Martin received certification as a clinical trauma professional under the tutelage of Dr. Eric Gentry from the Arizona Trauma Institute.

Mr. Martin was honored for his accomplishments with a Departmental Award from the director of Danville Illinois Veterans Hospital while he was employed by the Springfield Veterans Center in Illinois. He also received numerous other awards and accolades, including Letters of Commendation as an Illinois State Trooper. Grateful for his success, Mr. Martin attributes much of it to his experience in the U.S. Marine Corps and the influence of his father, a Korean War U.S. Air Force veteran.
