In recognition of her professional excellence and commitment to her students, Ms. Maxson has been the recipient of numerous professional awards.

    CREEDMOOR, NC, July 25, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kelly Foss Maxson, MEd has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Ms. Maxson is an educator with more than 26 years of classroom experience teaching diverse core subjects. Driven by a love for helping others learn and a talent for working with children and youth, Ms. Maxson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Middle School Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1995. As a part of her dedication to lifelong learning, Ms. Maxson continued her education at the University of Scranton, where she completed a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction in 2008, and was awarded her Master of Education in Educational Administration by Grand Canyon University in 2012. In addition to her formal education, Ms. Maxson has pursued extensive continuing professional development throughout her career. She completed and became a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent Science in 2011. Additionally, she earned her Certified Interscholastic Coach (CIC) Credentials in 2017, being 1 of just under 9000 high school coaches in the country to have earned CIC status, as well as earning her NHFS Coach Level 3 Credentials in 2022 from the National Federation of State High School Associations in both softball and basketball.

Ms. Maxson began her career as a seventh-grade teacher at Neal Middle School in 1995, departing the next year to teach sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade classes at Wilmington Friends School in Wilmington, North Carolina. She joined Granville County Schools in 1997 and taught at G.C. Hawley Middle School and Butner-Stem Middle School until 2001. The following year, she transitioned into an administrative role as student services coordinator for East Wake Academy, where she would remain until 2006. Ms. Maxson returned to the classroom as a science teacher at Lowe's Grove Middle School in 2006, and in 2008 she returned to G.C. Hawley Middle School as an eighth-grade science teacher, a position she held until 2013. She continued to build her skills as an administrator, accepting a position as assistant principal at Falls Lake Academy. After two years as assistant principal, Ms. Maxson became the academy's Director of Middle and High School, and in 2016, she reentered the classroom as an Earth and Environmental Science teacher for the school. In 2018, Ms. Maxson accepted her current position as a high school science teacher at Vance Charter School, where she has taught Earth and Environmental Science, and Physical Science, as well as developing a brand new curriculum for an elective class she created; The Science of Sports. Over the course of her career, she has been both a mentor for new teachers, as well as a presenter for a variety of different professional development courses.

In recognition of her professional excellence and commitment to her students, Ms. Maxson has been the recipient of numerous professional awards. She is a member of the National Science Teaching Association and is active in the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Ms. Maxson credits her success to her desire to foster her students' love of science and curiosity about the world and considers it an honor to see their continued success after they leave her classroom. In her personal time, Ms. Maxson enjoys playing sports, coaching softball and basketball, going to the theater, and is a longtime volunteer for her local American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
