Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in healthcare specializing in gerontology, Ms. Swalley has earned distinction as the director of practical nursing for Kiamichi Tech. Since 2010, she has focused her efforts on training future licensed practical nurses while maintaining high standards for the company's practical nursing programs. Under her leadership, the NCLEX-PN pass rate consistently outperforms the state and national pass rate, averaging above 95% and higher each year.
Also dedicated to civil advocacy, Ms. Swalley serves as the president of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, appointed by the governor of the State of Oklahoma, and lends her expertise to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Oklahoma Blood Institute. Additionally, she is a valued member of the American Nurses Association, the National Association for Licensed Practical Nurses, the National Association for Practical Nurse Education Service, Inc. and the Oklahoma Nurses Association, among other professional nursing organizations.
Before rising to her present leadership role, Ms. Swalley joined Kiamichi Tech as a practical nursing instructor in 2003 and was promoted to the assistant director of practical nursing in 2005. Among her professional accomplishments, she was honored with a Recognition of Service Award for 15 years of service with the company in 2018. Outside of her company, she received an Outstanding Educator of the Year for Health Careers Education from the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technical Education in 2010 and 2013. She was also recognized with the Best LPN Program in Oklahoma award from practicalnursing.org from 2017 through 2022 as well as with a CareerTech Women in Leadership award from Oklahoma CareerTech in 2017.
To prepare for her nursing career, Ms. Swalley earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1989. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Science in healthcare administration from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1995. Well-qualified in her field, she is a registered nurse with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and holds a school nurse standard teaching certificate from the Oklahoma State Department of Education. She also gained a national career readiness certification from ACT in 2013. Within the coming years, Ms. Swalley intends to continue her work as the director of practical nursing, helping to reduce the workload of her instructors and increase the number of programs and students they have.
