Ms. Hinson devoted her career to social work for four decades before retiring. Most recently, she served as a clinical social worker supervisor at the Nassau County Correctional Center from 2007 to 2013, supervising other social workers, helping inmates psychologically while serving time in prison, and collaborating with local police regarding inmates being prepared for discharge back into the community. Prior to working for the government, Ms. Hinson was a licensed clinical social worker at The State University of New York between 2002 and 2007 and Nassau County University Medical (now Nassau University Medical Center) from 1973 to 2002.

Outside of her fieldwork, Ms. Hinson found success in education as an adjunct faculty at her alma mater, Adelphi University, from 2013 to 2018 and as a chaplain with Marketplace Chaplains between 2005 and 2020.

Civically engaged, Ms. Hinson was active as a member of a disaster relief team through the American Red Cross, assisting with flood relief efforts in New Orleans. She was also part of a family coach program comprising a team of compassionate leaders that donate their time, share their talent, and encourage others to reach their dreams. Moreover, Ms. Hinson has been very active in her church.

Ms. Hinson graduated from Molloy College with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Adelphi University with a Master of Science in Social Work. She also received a social worker and criminal justice specialist certification in New York.

Drawing a sense of satisfaction in her work, Ms. Hinson enjoyed developing relationships with her patients because they appreciated her, particularly incarcerated individuals that needed her help. Ms. Hinson had much compassion for them and was eager to assist them as much as possible.
