With more than three decades of excellence in finance for the Shell Oil Company, Mr. Leftwich has earned distinction as a treasurer for the company. From 1997 until his retirement in 2002, he focused his efforts on overseeing the treasury and financing activities of the company, managing overseas projects, financing the company's daily and long-term financing needs as well as leading mergers and acquisitions for the company. Among his professional accomplishments, he had assignments throughout the United States and internationally, including in Italy, Brazil, West Africa, Syria, China and Saudi Arabia. In 2002, the City of Houston proclaimed September 10 as "Ron Leftwich Day" in recognition of his services to minority-owned banks in the community.
Also dedicated to civil advocacy, Mr. Leftwich was involved in campus recruiting, presentations and workshops at college campuses and was a member of his homeowners' association for 10 years, including serving as a president for eight years. He presently serves on the board of a municipal utility for his community. As a dedicated member of the board of trustees for Culver-Stockton College, Mr. Leftwich served 33 years as a trustee including 4 years as treasurer and 14 years as chair, having been elected to the role of trustee emeritus in 2023.
Prior to embarking on his professional journeys, Mr. Leftwich earned a Bachelor of Science in business and economics from Culver-Stockton College in 1964. He was awarded with an honorary doctorate in humane letters from the same institution in 2013. The college trustees established an endowed scholarship called the Ronald W. Leftwich Chairman Emeritus Endowed Scholarship in honor of his outstanding commitment to the institution. The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate leadership, service, dedication and commitment in the classroom. Additionally, he established the annual Susan V. Leftwich Spirit of Culver-Stockton Award, an accolade for students who epitomize the spirit of the college, and two endowed scholarships, one to honor his parents and one to honor his sister and, is one of only 13 individuals throughout the school's history to be inducted into the Order of the Founders Circle, which is reserved for those who made the most impactful contributions to the life and welfare of the institution.
Looking to the future, Mr. Leftwich intends to continue his support of Culver-Stockton College in any capacity possible, enabling it to remain as a strong institution of learning. He also plans to give back to his local community while also spending more time with his wife Susie, particularly after she herself retires.
