Norman E. Taylor, MD, PhD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    NORTH SALT LAKE, UT, August 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Norman E. Taylor, MD, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than a decade of excellence in clinical research, anesthesiology and medical education, Dr. Taylor has earned distinction as an associate professor of anesthesiology with the University of Utah School of Medicine. Since 2018, he has focused his efforts on working as an anesthesiologist in the operating room while conducting research on the neurobiology of pain, the causes of chronic pain and potential treatments for these conditions. Additionally, he lends his expertise as an associate editor for the Journal Anesthesia and Analgesia. He is also a valued member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain, among other professional organizations.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Taylor began his career as a process engineer with Dura Pharmaceuticals in 1998 and underwent an internship with the Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in 2008. He then was an anesthesia resident for Massachusetts General Hospital in 2009 until becoming a staff anesthetist for the hospital and an Instructor of Anesthesia for Harvard Medical School in 2012. He was promoted to Assistant Professor for Harvard Medical School in 2016.

Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Taylor was honored with a Kosaka Award for Outstanding Science from the International Anesthesia Research Society in 2018 and was elected the Michael K. Cahalan Presidential Chair in the department of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah. He is also proud to have been a key part of the team that developed the first complex genetic pain model used to test fibromyalgia medication and to have conducted research that described the mechanism of Adderall and other medications that increase dopamine levels to promote wakefulness and tested these medications as a way to reverse anesthesia.

To prepare for his medical career, Dr. Taylor earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University in 1998. Following this achievement, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in physiology in 2006 and a Doctor of Medicine in 2008, both from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Within the coming years, Dr. Taylor intends to continue his research on treating pain. He is presently working on a clinical trial of a medication for fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions, which should help his work regarding the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of chronic pain.
