Drawing on years of expertise in laboratory management and drug testing, Dr. Frederick presently excels as a forensic toxicologist through the eponymous Frederick Consulting, which he established in 2013. Prior to founding his consultancy, he worked as a clinical chemist and toxicologist for Peoria Tazewell Pathology Group and several commercial companies. Over the years, he has also gained valuable expertise in the industry through varying roles with Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, Precision Analytical Laboratories, through which he co-managed a National Institute on Drug Abuse-certified laboratory, and the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense. With the latter, Dr. Frederick provided served as an expert witness in more than 70 cases regarding the scientific reliability and validity of data for a forensic drug testing program.
Outside of his work, Dr. Frederick volunteers with the Peoria Riverfront Museum. Likewise, he remains abreast of ongoing industry changes as a member of several organizations, including the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, the Southwestern Association of Toxicology, and the Midwestern Association of Toxicology. An expert in his field, he holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Eastern Mennonite University and a master's degree in physical chemistry from the University of Virginia. Subsequently, Dr. Frederick expanded upon his professional knowledge, earning a PhD in pathology from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Medicine.
Dr. Frederick has achieved Board Certification in Forensic Toxicology in 1989 by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology and was certified as a Fellow in 2015. Dr. Frederick has been continually certified as a Clinical Laboratory Director since 1979 by the American Board of Bioanalysis and achieve the distinction or Fellow by the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry in 2010. In 2025 he was honored with the Albert A. Dietz Service Award by the Chicago Section of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.

In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Frederick has received several regional awards in clinical chemistry, as well as the Clinical Chemistry Achievement Award in 2012.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Frederick takes the most pride in the totality of his career in forensic drug testing for the government. The cornerstone of his success lay in his ability to network while in charge of the drug testing program for the U.S. Air Force; the experience gave him the opportunity and exposure to meet and connect with other industry experts. In the next five years, Dr. Frederick aims to experience continued excellence in clinical chemistry and forensic toxicology and remain active with the Society of Forensic Toxicologists and the Midwestern Association of Toxicology.
