Octavia D. Harris serves as an expert in employment integration for women within military services



Ms. Harris has received multiple awards, including the Women's Memorial Certificate of Achievement in 2023, and the Legion of Merit from the President of the United States in 2012.

    SAN ANTONIO, TX, August 16, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Octavia D. Harris, MS, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Ms. Harris specializes in employment integration for women within military services. Since 2022, she has found much success as a subcommittee leader for the United States Department of Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services. In this capacity, Ms. Harris is responsible for exploring opportunities for women in such fields within the military as extensive pilot programs, Navy submarines, combat field, tank and special forces operations, advising the secretary of defense on focus areas, assessing challenges and productivity, and participating in outreach and recruitment engagements.

Ms. Harris initially began her career serving in the United States Navy for 30 years. Between 2002 and 2015, she continued to contribute to the Navy as a senior advisor to the commander for Amphibious Squadron One, a human resource manager and lead detailer, a command master chief of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command and a program manager for the Navy Medical Center in San Diego. Ms. Harris was also active as a command master chief of the USS Pinckney, and a project manager and a team lead at Kochurtrummer LLC.

During her professional journey, Ms. Harris pursued an education at the National University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in behavioral sciences in 2001. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Arkansas, earning a Master of Science in operations and health care management and safety in 2007. As a commitment to her field, she has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Systems and the United States Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee for Women and Children. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Harris contributes to Support The Enlisted Project and the Military Women's Memorial foundation, where she serves as one of three ambassadors for the memorial that recognizes women and their services from the Revolutionary War to present day.

Well-regarded for her contributions to the field, Ms. Harris has received multiple awards, including the Women's Memorial Certificate of Achievement in 2023, the Legion of Merit from the President of the United States in 2012, the San Diego Navy League Woman of the Year award from the Navy League of the United States in 2001 and the Woman of the Year award from San Diego County. Among her professional accomplishments, she is most proud of her involvement, leadership efforts and achievements of congressional policy changes under the Deborah Sampson Act, which supports women's health care and programs. Looking toward the future, Ms. Harris aspires to continually expand upon her role within the United States Department of Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, while writing novels about her experiences, and hopes to impact women and children within the nation through the United States Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee for Women and Children.
