Marquis Who's Who Selects Robert Manuel Albarran II, PhD, for Expertise in Astronomy and Engineering Physics

Recognizing his hard work, Dr. Albarran received the John Mather Nobel Scholar Award from the NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center.

    LOS ANGELES, CA, August 24, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert Manuel Albarran II, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Albarran joined the University of California at Los Angeles in 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences working in part of the NASA DRIVE Science Center for Geospace Storms (CGS). Previously, he garnered experience in academia while pursuing his master's and doctoral degrees at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as a MATLAB technician, physics and chemistry tutor, physics instructor, and residential doctoral research assistant between 2012 and 2022. Dr. Albarran also served as an astronomy and physics tutor for The Research Corporation at the University of Hawai'i while working toward his undergraduate degree in 2012.

Among Dr. Albarran's most notable industry-related contributions thus far has been his work on the interface between industry, government, and academia in heliophysics, which includes the physics of the sun and how it relates to Earth. Looking toward the future, he plans to continue establishing a bond between scientists, academics, government, and industry relations to advance space physics and help change the public's perspective of heliophysics.

Dr. Albarran has been active in the industry on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences review panel. He also co-founded and served as the director of the AstroTalks Scientific Lecture Series.

Documenting his research, Dr. Albarran authored 'Plasma Density Analysis of CubeSat Wakes in the Earth's Ionosphere' in the Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets.

Dr. Albarran graduated from the University of Hawai'i at Hilo in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in astronomy. He subsequently studied at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, earning a Master of Science in engineering physics in 2014 and a Doctor of Philosophy in engineering physics in 2022. Moreover, Dr. Albarran completed numerous internships at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, The Research Corporation at the University of Hawai'i, and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

Active in his professional community, Dr. Albarran is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science and is the co-founder and former vice president of the organization's UH chapter. He is also a committee member of the National Center for Atmospheric Research's high-performance computing allocation panel. Furthermore, Dr. Albarran is active on the space physics and astronomy advocacy committee of the American Geophysical Union, helping advocate for heliophysics in the U.S. House of Representatives to senators and local state representatives.

Recognizing his hard work, Dr. Albarran received the John Mather Nobel Scholar Award from the NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center in 2011.
