In her current role of Director, Supply Chain Strategy & Business Development of eCommerce Transformation, Ms. Ovando Sosa directly influences more than 20 cross-functional teams to create and execute Walmart Canada's long term supply chain strategy, as well as to ensure its timely implementation across Merchandising, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Transportation, Information Technology, and eCommerce areas. Ms. Ovando Sosa also manages the strategic assessment and implementation of highly impactful transformational strategic initiatives across Walmart Canada eCommerce business that aim to increase profitability through additional revenue streams, such as the Walmart Canada Fulfillment Services. Ms. Ovando Sosa also leads the orchestration of eCommerce's Supply Chain's Long Range Plan, and Walmart Canada's overall Supply Chain Annual Operating Plan. In light of her ongoing success since she joined the organization in 2019, Ms. Ovando Sosa was recognized by Walmart with a prestigious global award: Leading the Way Award for the creation, coordination and collaborative execution of a highly successful executive management process designed to ensure the operational, strategic, and socially responsible success of Walmart Canada eCommerce throughout the COVID pandemic. Furthermore, Ms. Ovando Sosa has also been the recipient of the Making a Difference Award, Polaris Star, and Transformer of the Year awards due to her valuable contributions in accomplishing the best in class launch of Walmart Fulfillment Services.
Ms. Ovando Sosa was recruited by Walmart Canada from Amazon.com Inc., through which she served as a Senior Operations manager leading _1,000-associate teams for inbound, outbound and reverse logistics customer fulfillment operations from 2015 to 2017. Ms. Ovando Sosa was given the opportunity to lead and launch Amazon Canada Customer Fulfillment's operational excellence, continuous improvement, subject matter expert and network optimization national customer fulfillment efforts and teams between 2017 and 2019. While in Amazon, Ms. Ovando developed exceptionally strong capabilities in leadership, as well as operations' planning and execution, being one of the first Sr Managers to achieve one of the highest leadership engagement scores in North America, flawless execution, and backlog management excellence. Through her high performance, Ms. Ovando Sosa became the go-to leader for operations support and help most needed fulfillment centers during Peak seasons, where through leadership engagement and teamwork she was able to take entire operations from 63% to 113% productivity in five months.
Prior to Amazon, Ms. Ovando Sosa was employed by Target Canada Inc. from 2014 to 2015 as a Field Operations Logistics & Transportation Manager to lead operations from Canada's three largest Distribution Centers to Target's 133 stores. Finally, before pursuing her MBA studies, Ms. Ovando Sosa collaborated at CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. in Mexico from 2004 to 2012 in various logistics intelligence and freight services leading roles.
Highly educated and a recipient of three academic scholarships, Ms. Ovando Sosa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting & Finance from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in 2004, which included a finance exchange program at McMaster University in 2002 and an accounting exchange program at the University of Texas at Austin in 2003. She graduated with a Master of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto in 2014, with two specializations in Strategy & Operations, and two majors in Consulting and Innovation.
As part of her established commitment to civic endeavors, Ms. Ovando Sosa served as a volunteer, collaborator and organizer of elderly, orphans and battered women supporting activities for her alma mater, the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, from 2000 to 2005. Additionally, throughout her college studies, Ms. Ovando Sosa strongly engaged in extracurricular activities and student societies, such as the Addiction Awareness Organization (CAT), the Accounting and Finance Student Association (AELCPF) in which she directly contributed to the materialization of five national symposiums upon graduation, and the Tabasco State Student Association (AETAB). Ms. Ovando Sosa authored a 2020 LinkedIn article, 'Nine Quick Tips to Successfully Create Your LinkedIn Networking Strategy' to provide professionals with initial guidance on ways of driving networking in the Canadian business setting.
Ms. Ovando Sosa also received a Mental Health First Aid Certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada, a Lean Six Sigma certification from the University of Toronto, and credentials of SAFe 5 Agilist from Scaled Agile Inc.
