Michael V. Namorato Jr. celebrates a brilliant career as an educator and scholar



Dr. Namorato advanced to the rank of professor emeritus at the University of Mississippi in 2013 after having served there as a full professor since 1998.

    OXFORD, MS, August 28, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michael V. Namorato Jr. is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Namorato advanced to the rank of professor emeritus at the University of Mississippi in 2013 after having served there as a full professor since 1998. He joined the institution as an assistant professor in 1973, then advanced to earn tenure and the title of associate professor in 1983. While attending MSU, he accumulated valuable classroom experience as a graduate teaching assistant before transitioning to an appointment as an instructor in 1971. Notably, continuing education has proven vital to Dr. Namorato's advancement, thus he is avidly studying biblical Hebrew and Greek, and he earned a certificate in statistical analysis through the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research.

Across his illustrious career as an educator, Dr. Namorato is gratified to have taught nearly 40,000 students. He believes that his most significant impact was made through his role as an advisor to graduate students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree, and he also notes that his course content consistently proved appealing enough to engage up to 400 enrollees in a single section. Dr. Namorato has also shown significant dedication to community service and activism through volunteerism with GED programs in 2017 and the American Red Cross between 2012 and 2016. Moreover, he taught driver education through AARP for two years, and Dr. Namorato plans to remain active as an educator at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he has been serving since 1975.

Dr. Namorato is a renowned and productive scholar, as indicated by publications including "Have We Overcome? Race Relations Since Brown (1954–1979)" from 2008. He also penned a biography of Rexford Tugwell and a monograph on Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal, and his output includes "The Catholic Church in Mississippi, 1911–1984: A History," which was disseminated in 1998. To regularly engage in collaborative discussion and share his expertise, Dr. Namorato maintains an affiliation with relevant organizations such as the Economic and Business History Society, of which he has previously held the titles of president, secretary, treasurer and journal editor, as well as the American Catholic Historical Association.

In 1969, Dr. Namorato was recognized as a fellow with the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, and he was celebrated with numerous additional accolades throughout his career. For example, he accepted a grant from the National Science Foundation, and he was pleased to be featured in Forbes Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. Moreover, Dr. Namorato was included among the Marquis Who's Who Top Educators.

Dr. Namorato counts an abiding faith, his parents' exemplary model of an inspiring work ethic and family loyalty as integral to his professional and creative success.
