Now retired, Mr. Ellig was a human resources executive who spent more than 35 years in corporate America with Pfizer Inc. in New York City. Beginning his career in 1960, he rose to serve as a manager of compensation and personnel research, corporate director of compensation and benefits, vice president of compensation and benefits, vice president of employee relations, and vice president of personnel until 1995. During his tenure with Pfizer, Mr. Ellig also served as the secretary of the board of the compensation committee.

A widely published author, Mr. Ellig has authored 11 books, including the fourth edition of "American History Impact on Employee Pay and Benefits" in 2021, the fourth edition of "The Complete Guide to Executive Compensation" in 2022, and "The Evolution of Employee Pay in the United States" in 2005. He has also served as a contributing author for numerous books by other authors, including "The Future of Human Resource Management" in 2005, has served as a consulting editor for "Compensation and Benefits Review" from 1984 to 1996, and has contributed over 100 articles to various professional journals. Moreover, Mr. Ellig has been instrumental on the advisory board for the Journal of Compensation and Benefits between 1984 and 1996. In addition to his writing contributions, he has spoken publicly more than 400 times on the radio and television. He was also interviewed on NBC's Good Morning America and featured in The Wall Street Journal.

Adding to his expertise, Mr. Ellig served in various other roles, including consultant to the Organization Resources Counselors Inc., a management consulting firm in New York City. He has also been heavily invested in civic and educational initiatives, including on the University of Wisconsin's school of business dean's advisory board and the Kentucky Educational advisory board. Moreover, Mr. Ellig was a member of the CalPERS Panel Discussion, the Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies at Cornell University, and the New York Chamber of Commerce and chairperson for the New York City Mayor's Advisory Pay Commission. Most notably, he established the Bruce R. Ellig Scholarship at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin along with the Bruce R. Ellig Distinguished Chair in Pay and Organizational Effectiveness, and the Bruce R. Ellig professor in Management.

Mr. Ellig is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin, having earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1959 and a Master of Business Administration in 1960. He has been elected as a fellow of several professional organizations, including the National Academy of Human Resources, Wharton's Aresty Institute, and the Employer Benefits Research Institute. He is also a life member and a former chair, board of directors, and faculty for the Society of Human Resource Management, a member and former charter president of the New York Association of Compensation Administrators, and a member and past president of the New York Personnel Management Association. Among other affiliations, Mr. Ellig has been active in the American Compensation Association and the American Management Association.

In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Ellig was recognized with a Distinguished Business Alumnus Award from the University of Wisconsin's school of business in 2007 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Human Resource Management in 1999. Other accolades include being named as the 1995 Human Resources Executive of the Year in Human Resource Executive Magazine and as the 1995 Person of the Year by the University of Wisconsin Alumni Club of New York.
