With more than three decades of excellence in environmental sciences and business development, Dr. Maranto has earned distinction as the chief growth officer and vice president for strategic pursuits for the Lynker Corporation. Since 2022, he has focused his efforts on leading numerous capture strategies valued at $1.5 billion as well as assessing potential merger and acquisition targets. He supports marine, coastal and environmental science solutions for the National Ocean Service, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the National Weather Service while also developing solutions and strategies for Earth science, Earth observing platforms and satellite and ground systems initiatives at NASA and the NOAA National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service. He is especially proud of the work he previously supported on the Mars Perseverance rover with a team of about 120 engineers across every discipline.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Dr. Maranto lends his expertise to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police as a reserve officer for various public safety, outreach and education endeavors such as boater and hunter safety instruction, training for natural hazards awareness and terrestrial and marine search and rescue operations. He is also an advisory board member for Shenandoah University and has taught at various institutions as an adjunct professor for courses in biology, chemistry, and environmental science since 1993.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Maranto began his career as a radioecologist for the power plant and environmental review division of the State of Maryland Department of Natural Resources in 1988, conducting radiological analyses on environmental samples in the Chesapeake Bay region. Following this time, he became the director of the radioecology laboratory under contract with Versar, Inc. in 1991 and later took a role as an environmental project manager for Consulting Associates, Inc. in 1997. In 1999, he functioned in a similar capacity for J.M. Waller Associates, Inc., managing their support for the Environmental Program Requirements reporting system, the Army Corporate Environmental Report, the Army Environmental Database and other environmental projects for the United States Army.
Dr. Maranto continued his career as a senior associate for Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc. in 2001. While there, be served as a program leader for environmental planning projects at the Department of Commerce, a project leader for the Department of Defense's chemical and biological defense program, a program manager for the environmental quality program and range sustainability programs for the United States Arny Environmental Command (USAEC) and the Center for Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine, a client-site program manager for conservation support pogroms at USAEC and as the principal project officer for Army overseas environmental support.
After this period, Dr. Maranto joined Earth Resources Technology in 2010 where he was the vice president for environmental and life sciences as well as the executive vice president and chief business development officer until 2018. He primarily provided leadership on contracts across their National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Army Corps of Engineers environmental restoration, information technology, and health and safety programs. Working as an independent consultant for a year in 2018, in 2019 he became the vice president for strategic pursuits at Columbus Technologies and Services for the company's national security, life science research and aerospace, satellite and IT research and development departments.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Maranto earned a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry and molecular biology with a minor in physics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1991 and a Master of Arts in environmental science with a focus on environmental health from Goddard College in 1993. Following these achievements, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1997 in environmental science with a focus in environmental chemistry from The Union Institute College of Graduate Studies, writing his dissertation on "Human Health Risks of Carcinogenic Biocides found in Finfish and Shellfish of Chesapeake Bay." He also holds a certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
Looking to the future, Dr. Maranto intends to continue problem-solving and solutions development while working for agencies with important missions. He is particularly interested in engaging further with science and exploration missions for NASA as well as environmental sustainability, climate preservation and ocean preservation efforts with NOAA.
