With nearly than two decades of excellence in ensuring quality outcomes for patients while maintaining a safe working environment for the staff, Dr. Lavin has earned distinction as the senior director of nursing quality and outcomes for NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, NYU Langone Health. Since 2006, she has focused her efforts on guaranteeing high-quality patient care as well as staff safety, working on decreasing hospital-acquired conditions and improve the patient experience. Among the projects she is leading is improving the work environment of nurses, optimizing care of older adult as an Age-Friendly Health System, and continuing the hospitals' ANCC Magnet Designation for a fourth time. She is also in the process of re-establishing a community outreach program for bone health and running a recognition program for the staff. Additionally, she is a valued member of the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Nurse Leaders, the American Nurses Association and the American Organization of Nurse Executives and Nurse Leaders.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Lavin served as a critical care nurse, a public health nurse, a nursing care manager in New York and as a traveling nurse in California. She also was a senior nurse clinician at St. Vincent's Medical Center's Emergency Room-a Level One Trauma Center nearly a decade prior to rising to a nursing administrative role at the medical center. She has presented at local, state, and national conferences as a podium and poster presenter on Magnet Designation, evidence-based nursing practice, patient experience, professional nursing practice, and quality initiatives. She has authored several manuscripts published in the Journal of Nursing Care Quality, Nursing Management, and the Journal of Orthopedic Nursing, in addition to a chapter on Teaching Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing.

Her professional work includes multiple nursing research studies, and she was a member of a nursing research team that received an AORN Research Grant in 2022. Patricia developed the NYU EBP Academy and has led /supported over one hundred nurses in 42 evidence-based projects. She has appeared on cable television in a roundtable discussion on the value of evidence-based nursing practice and patient care. Her current research is on resilience and nurses' lived experience during COVID-19. She was honored with internal professional recognition for the development of a Bone Health Community Screening Program in 2018, and a Certificate of Appreciation for Presentation from the Certificate of Interprofessional Mobilization Program at the 2013 Annual Safe Patient Handling Conference. Added to these, she has led four successful ANCC Magnet® Designations at Good Samaritan Medical Center, 2006, Hospital for Joint Diseases, 2012, NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, 2016, and in 2022. The ANCC Magnet® Designation is a four-year international designation of nursing excellence. NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital received nine exemplars for exceeding the benchmarks' expectations under her leadership in 2022.

To prepare for her professional journey, Dr. Lavin earned a bachelor's degree from Downstate University and a master's degree in health administration from the Robert J. Milano Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy's New School for Social Research in 1992. Following these achievements, she attained a Doctor of Nursing Practice in nursing administration from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in 2021. Eminently qualified in her field, she holds a Lean Six Sigma green belt from Rutgers University as well as a nurse executive advanced certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Within the coming years, Dr. Lavin intends to achieve a ANCC Magnet® Designation for the fourth time for NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, continue her work with ANA-NY as an advocate at the state and federal level of government in promoting the nursing profession and their effort to improve healthcare for all. She also plans to continue her work as a nurse consultant and growing the next generation of nurses.
