Ms. Shadwick has accumulated over two decades of success in education as both a teacher and sports coach. As a career and technical education (CTE) educator at Riverview Gardens High School since 2019, she has taught and motivated her students as they prepare for life after graduation. Ms. Shadwick previously held the same position at the school from 2005 to 2010 before returning nearly a decade later. She is also active as a secondary DECA advisor, responsible for preparing students for life after graduation. Additionally, Ms. Shadwick enjoyed her involvement on campus as a yearbook advisor.
Apart from teaching, Ms. Shadwick is an independent consultant for VIPKid, now VIP Teacher, a global online platform where she has taught Chinese students English as a second language since 2018. Previously, she garnered expertise as a business educator and assistant basketball coach at an area middle school. She also taught as a CTE educator at Confluence Preparatory Academy, Northwestern Jr./Sr. High School, Livingston High School, and Venice High School, dating to 1999. Among other roles, Ms. Shadwick has served as a substitute teacher and long-term substitute teacher for several schools. Looking toward the future, she intends to return to college to pursue a degree in English as a second language and photography.
Leading various community initiatives, Ms. Shadwick has been active as a member, former first vice president, and past president of the Collinsville High School Band Parent Association and as a member of the American Legion Post 365. She honorably served her country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves for eight years, rising to sergeant and serving abroad during the Gulf War in 1991.
An alumnus of Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Ms. Shadwick received a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1993 and a Bachelor of Music in music performance in 1994. She also received a Master of Arts in education technology from Webster University in 2005. Ms. Shadwick holds credentials as a certified teacher in Illinois and Missouri.
Ms. Shadwick is active in her professional community as a member of the National Education Association, the Missouri Business Education Association, the Marketing and Cooperative Education Association, and the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education. She has also served on various committees and boards, including the education committee of the Missouri National Education Association.
Highlighting her professional success, Ms. Shadwick was named as the Riverview Gardens High School Teacher of the Year in 2010. Her success has been due to her caring and compassionate nature, her passion for helping students grasp concepts, and her desire to make them become better learners.
