As a member of the advisory board of the Pacific West Coast Region for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Mr. Ugarte assists in the organization's wider mission of bringing Christ-centered mentoring principles to children, young adults and sports coaches, leveraging the talent and charisma of all professional sports teams and athletes including the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball players to spread their message far and wide. Active with the organization since 2018, Mr. Ugarte has worked diligently to instill inner city and suburban communities with a more profound dedication to faith and family.
Hailing from a tumultuous background, which included many years of work as a nightclub consultant and one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most prominent weekday promoters, Mr. Ugarte has since rededicated his life to spirituality and service on behalf of his community. Prior to his work at FCA, he participated with Project Church in the establishment of a small church in downtown Sacramento. In this role, he served on the launch team and as one of the leaders for Project CARE – an initiative to provide food, housing and bill payments where needed – and as a member of the prayer team, security and missionary services.
Following the success of the Sacramento church, Mr. Ugarte continued his efforts at Project Church as co founding partner of Project HEAL from 2015 to 2018, during which time he helped manage the organization's faith-based recovery groups. In addition, he raised money on behalf of the Sacramento California Dream Center to help the homeless, donated to foster children and secured much-needed funding for Project Church's outreach ministries and missionary partners, among other civic accomplishments to his credit. Mr. Ugarte and his wife have also worked with a variety of nonprofit groups and government organizations, including Shelter Inc., Volunteers of America, the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, and El Hogar Community Services, among others. He is an Adventure Christian Schools Fundraising Board Member.
Outside of his work in community organizing, Mr. Ugarte's experience in mortgage lending and real estate extends back more than 21 years. He began mortgage lending in 2002 and rehabilitating homes in 2004 and went on to serve as a silent partner for a prominent mortgage brokerage between 2005 and 2007 which was recognized as #1 wholesale brokerage in CA by Worlds Savings Bank. Since then, he and his wife have owned and managed three property management and apartment companies – Victory Made Properties LLC, Ugarte Park Apartments LLC and Curtis Park Apartments LLC, which encompass over 88 rental units. Among his professional accomplishments, one of his properties that was custom built was featured in Catta Verdera magazine and was admitted as a Master Club Award Member to the Placer County Association of REALTORS® in 2022.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Ugarte credits all of his success to God alone and the lifetime of struggle he has faced, grappling with gang membership, drugs, a broken family and depression. Throughout that time, however, he is most proud to have discovered the redemptive power of faith, and to have reoriented his life toward service on behalf of others. Looking forward, Mr. Ugarte intends to continue the important work of helping families in need, and to live by the tenets of his favorite Bible verse Philippians 1:6: "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
