Prince, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Prince celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in his field. After over two decades in education and administration, Dr. Prince retired as the assistant superintendent for school operations at the Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) in Richmond, Virginia, in 2018. She previously garnered expertise as a program improvement specialist in the office of adult education and literacy between 2000 and 2004, as an assistant superintendent for academic programs from 2004 to 2012, and as the director of academic programs between 2012 and 2015. Throughout her professional journey in correctional education, Dr. Prince was involved with incarcerated adults and juveniles, inspiring them to further their studies and obtain the necessary credentials to pursue jobs after release.

Prior to being recruited by the Department of Correctional Education (DCE), Dr. Prince was a professional development coordinator in the adult education resource center at her alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University, from 1999 to 2000. In her role, she established and provided professional development opportunities for adult education and literacy teachers, tutors, and program managers.

Dr. Prince spent the first half of her 44-year with the Commonwealth career in the child welfare sector before transitioning into adult education. Grateful to be able to give back by working with at-risk and marginalized individuals, she was passionate about assisting the youth and those incarcerated because she saw possibility in all of them. During Dr. Prince's more than 20 years working in local and state social services, she also developed relationships with professionals from various agencies, ultimately leading to her work with the Virginia DOC. She remains active in retirement as a lifelong learner and is mentoring five young women pursuing doctorate degrees in different areas.

Dr. Prince also dedicates her free time to volunteering with the African American committee of the Chesterfield County Historical Society, and with Joy House, a church affiliated not-for-profit serving homeless women. Additionally, she has been active civically through her affiliation with the Life-Long Learning Institute in the county where she resides.

A graduate of Radford University, Dr. Prince received a Bachelor of Science in psychology and biology in 1969. She continued her education at Virginia Commonwealth University, earning a Master of Education in adult education, social policy, and social planning in 1989 and a Doctor of Philosophy in education, social work, and social policy in 1995. Additionally, Dr. Prince received certification in moral reconation therapy.

To remain active and aware of developments in her field, Dr. Prince has been a member of the Coalition on Adult Basic Education and the Association for Psychological Type International. She is also a member and past president of the Virginia Association for Adult and Continuing Education and a member and auditor for the Correctional Education Association.

In light of her accomplishments, Dr. Prince received an American Humane Association Award from the organization's children's division. She was also recognized for her musical skills as an Original Music Composition Contest winner during the 1980s.
