    BOCA RATON, FL, September 29, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bassem A. Alhalabi, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A renowned engineer, Dr. Alhalabi joined Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton, Florida, in 1996 as an assistant professor of computer engineering. In addition to designing curriculums and key courses for the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department, he teaches various classes to undergraduate and graduate level students, including Logic Design, Microcomputers, Embedded Systems, Engineering Design I & II, Engineering Ethics, Computer Architecture, and Design of Digital Systems. His research interests include Embedded, IoT, Smart Controls, and Automation, which span over consumer, industrial, educational, and medical applications.

When Dr. Alhalabi began teaching at FAU, he was on a mission to significantly enhance the current technical curriculum and bring industrial strength to the classrooms, making the accreditation of the Computer Engineering program a sure thing. He revamped several courses by adding hands-on and lab components, where students creatively transform theories into pragmatic applications and functional devices. Moreover, Dr. Alhalabi was very active on campus as a member of various committees at the department, college, and university levels. As for the extra-curricular activities, Dr. Alhalabi serves as an advisor for various honors/social students clubs.

Serving the field of Computer Engineering, Dr. Alhalabi's publication record includes 16 journal papers, 55 conferences, 4 issued patents and others pending, 1 book, 4 book chapters, and 3 lab manuals. He has served as an advisor or advising member of 75 Master's and PhD students. He has participated in national/international professional activities including technical conferences, invited presentations, countless industry consultations, and product development.

Early in his life, while he was a freshman student at Damascus University, and before coming to the US in 1981, Dr. Alhalabi worked as a design engineer and had gained tremendous experience as a member of his family industrial R&D Establishment in his native Syria, inventing specialized controllers for custom machines. Later, during his life as an FAU professor, Dr. Alhalabi founded Research and Development G's in 2005, a local startup company based in Boca Raton, and since then he has been the president and sole owner. Relying on a network of 40+ engineers as collaborators of various specialties, Dr. Alhalabi has helped dozens of inventors achieve their dream inventions. He helps in technical idea development, conducts feasibility studies, writes patents, and designs and builds prototypes.

As a dedicated leader in his community, Dr. Alhalabi has been instrumental as a visionary founder and board member of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR) and Garden of Sahaba Academy (GSA). From his arrival to Boca in 1996 to 2023, Dr. Alhalabi has helped to pull the community resources and grow it from 40 people praying in classroom at FAU to a center sitting atop seven acres of land and houses a 225-student full-time Pre-K-12 academic facility and a 500-people strong congregation with social and sports facilities. The Center also provides an array of other services and programs for members, ranging from counseling and financial assistance to youth sports and summer camps. As a testament to his integrity and public involvement, he is a prominent member of various social programs and organizations, such as the Boca Raton Interfaith Clergy Association, which comprises interfaith and community leaders from various religious traditions.

Highly educated, Dr. Alhalabi received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Ohio University in 1984 and a master's degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Purdue University in 1986. He subsequently studied at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, earning a master's degree in computer engineering in 1993 and a Doctor of Philosophy in computer engineering in 1995.

Active in his professional community to remain relevant, Dr. Alhalabi is a member of 11 professional organizations, including the Association for Computing Machinery, the United Faculty of Florida, and the National Education Association. He is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the American Society for Engineering Education's (ASEE) national ethics committee. Additionally, Dr. Alhalabi is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi, Upsilon Pi Epsilon, and Phi Kappa Phi.

Among his 20 honors, Dr. Alhalabi received a National Distinguished Engineering Educator Achievement Award from the ASEE in 2018. From his College of Engineering, he was recognized as a Distinguished Teacher of the Year in 2012, and from FAU, he received Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award twice in 2008 and 2003. Further, from FAU Student Government, he received the Most Outstanding Professor of the Year 2001.
