The Rev. Dr. Molly Dale Smith is an Episcopal priest, writer, and consultant to both congregations and clergy. Backed by almost three decades of professional experience in theology, education and the practice of ministry, she is a member of the Advisory Council of the General Theological Seminary, NY and a past member of the General Seminary Board of Trustees.

Training and experience in strategic planning, conflict resolution as well as her work in various congregations, support her current work with churches as a Consultant in Transition, Mutual Ministry Review, Search and Congregational Development. Her background has enhanced her service as a member of the Leadership Council of the Good Shepherd Academy, Cameroon and Board of Trustees of the Episcopal School of Nashville.

Transitional Ministry has been a major focus of her ministry since 1998. She has served churches in the Dioceses of West Missouri, Newark, New Jersey, Florida, New York and Tennessee. In these positions, she led worship services, provided pastoral care, preached regularly and oversaw the ministry of congregations. In addition, she has served on the boards of several national professional organizations and as President of the Interim Ministry Network, National Network of Episcopal Clergy Associations and Interim Ministry in the Episcopal Church.

Editor of Transitional Ministry: Time of Opportunity (Church Publishing Inc., 2009), Dr. Smith has written articles about transitional ministry, taught online courses for Church Divinity School of the Pacific, and led workshops at the Interim Ministry Network Annual Conferences. As Chair of the Task Force that produced a new revised curriculum for the Interim Ministry Network's training programs for interim pastors, Dr. Smith transformed the curriculum from a lecture driven approach to one that is experience driven and case study based.

An expert in her field, Dr. Smith holds a Master of Theological Studies from Emory University, Atlanta, GA and a Master of Divinity from Seabury Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL. She expanded upon her professional knowledge earning a Doctor of Ministry in Evangelism from Saint Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, MO. She studied consultancy at the Center for Congregational Health and developed expertise in congregational development through her studies at the Alban Institute with Alice Mann and Speed Leas. She is a trained Fresh Start Facilitator for the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee. Dr. Smith received the PTS (Professional Transition Specialist) designation from the Interim Ministry Network.

As an IMN faculty member from 2003 to 2017, she taught clergy from a variety of religious traditions in the United States and Europe. Believing that change brings challenge and opportunity, Dr. Smith enjoys helping both individuals and groups to discover new and viable approaches to transition.
