Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in broadcast journalism, Mr. Takahashi has earned distinction as a news director with WHLT and WJTV. Since 2018, he has focused his efforts on setting the editorial direction for each day's newscast while guiding, mentoring, recruiting and training young journalists. Additionally, he is a valued member of the Asian American Journalists Association, the Radio Television Digital News Association and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Takahashi began his career as a news director for KJHK in 1989. Following this time, he worked as a reporter with WIBW TV in 1990 and was a reporter, night news manager and producer for KTKA-TV in 1991. He subsequently was the 11PM producer for First Coast News in 1995, a morning news producer for FOX 5 Atlanta with WAGA-TV in 1998 and a night executive producer for WXIA-TV's 11Alive in 1999. Following this time, he served as an executive producer for First Coast News in 2001 and for KOMO TV in 2002, taking a role as a news director for WTVQ in 2004. In 2009, he became a news director for WAND-TV and was an assistant news director for KGW-TV in 2016.
Among his many recognitions for his stellar work, Mr. Takahashi was honored with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association several times for overall excellence, investigative reporting, and received a National Edward R. Murrow Award for coverage of the Crash of Comair Flight 5191, to name a few. He also won first place for in-depth reporting from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters for his piece "What's in your Water?" His teams have won and been nominated for several Emmy awards. He was inducted into the esteemed Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2021. His team was recognized for Best Investigative Reporting by the Illinois Association of Broadcasters and won first place for Best Newscast, Breaking Weather, and Achievement from the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters in 2021. Most recently, he received second place in achievement and third place in breaking news from the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters in 2023.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Takahashi earned a Bachelor of Broadcast Journalism from The University of Kansas in 1991. Following this achievement, he underwent a fellowship in broadcast management at the Poynter Institute in 2002 and with the Kneeland Project in 2011. The same year, he attained a Master of Education in instructional leadership from Argosy University. Within the coming years, Mr. Takahashi intends to lead his company to the top, ensuring the longevity of the business by bringing skilled young talent aboard.
