HOLMDEL, NJ, October 05, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Phillipa Woodriffe, MD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven to pursue a career in service to others, Dr. Woodriffe earned a bachelor's degree from Molloy Catholic College in 1972. Subsequently, she expanded upon her professional knowledge by earning an MD from Columbia Presbyterian College of Physicians and Surgeons four years later. Upon her commencement from medical school, she completed a 5-year General Surgical Residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY. She then embarked on a 40-plus-year career as a general surgeon. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the ever-evolving field of medicine, Dr. Woodriffe aligns herself with the American Medical Association.

Outside of her work, Dr. Woodriffe contributes to her community and those less fortunate through the American Cancer Society, EuroDirekt, and Riverview Medical Center, where she was the president of the medical staff. In recognition of her outstanding body of work, she has been honored many times, earning an award from the Visiting Nurses Association, an award from the Bnai Zion Foundation, which produces media and entertainment that spreads Jewish ideas and secure the state of Israel, and the Doctor of Hope Award from Care to Give.

While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Woodriffe takes the most pride in being recognized for having been the first Black and first female general surgeon to open a practice in Monmouth County and, to date, being the only minority and only female to have held the position of President of the Medical Staff of Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. The cornerstone of her overall success lies with her mother, a hardworking woman who began her career as a counter girl at Macy's and became vice president of a division at a law firm. Looking forward, Dr. Woodriffe aims to continue to make significant steps toward diversity and inclusion in medicine.
