In his role as vice president of technical design at Contexture USA, Mr. Blackford has used his more than two decades of experience in architectural design to create an industry leading Design-Assist division. Since 2022, he has prioritized providing his clients with the best, most energy-efficient solution possible by addressing project challenges in tandem with the architect or building owner. He uses various building science analytics to study factors like daylight, glare probability, and solar exposure to develop individualized commercial window shade systems for both new construction and renovation projects. Previously, Mr. Blackford began his career as a residential designer with Design Tech in 2003 and became an associate architect for Metro Architecture in 2006. After that, in 2011, he established a BIM division at the curtainwall fabricator McMullen Inc. He continued his career as the regional technical advisor for the South region with Guardian Industries in 2012, providing architectural support for commercial glazing and low-E coatings. He then took a role as an innovation manager for Mermet USA in 2015. In 2017, he was promoted to the director of strategy and innovation and became the director of business development there in 2020.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Blackford earned a bachelor's degree in environmental design in architecture from North Carolina State University in 2002. He plans to keep up his innovative work in the coming years, advising architects and building owners on how to use high-performance window treatments to improve the comfort and efficiency of their buildings.
