A skilled global executive with more than two decades of excellence in general management, strategy and marketing within the medical device and life science industries, Mr. Novara is accomplished in building and scaling nascent, growth-oriented businesses as well as unlocking new growth and simplifying large, mature businesses. His experience spans more than 15 categories across medical device, technology and pharmaceuticals, with expertise in single-use class I/II devices for hospitals, drug delivery systems, diabetes care and smart connected care.
Mark spent over 11 years at Becton Dickinson as an executive at the operating unit, division and corporate levels (2011 to 2022). Half of his tenure was as a P&L executive, most recently as Worldwide Vice President/General Manager in BD's largest business unit, Medication Delivery Solutions. He was also Worldwide Vice President/General Manager in Diabetes Care (now Embecta) and led strategic marketing and business development for a small high-growth portfolio in BD's Pharmaceutical Systems business unit. Mr. Novara also headed up Strategy and Marketing for BD's Global Medical and Life Science divisions. As the Senior Vice President, he led strategy, advanced the innovation portfolio, and established best-in-class capabilities across new product development and commercial disciplines.
Prior to Becton Dickinson, Mr. Novara held global and US marketing leadership roles at Roche/Genentech and Sanofi-Aventis. Mr. Novara served as an International Business Leader in Roche/Genentech's Global Metabolism Group from 2007-2010, and prior, worked at Sanofi-Aventis from 2004-2006, where he first was a Director of Global New Products, and then a US Marketing Director for Managed Markets in 2005.
Prior to industry, Mr. Novara worked across healthcare in management consulting. In 1999, he began his career as an Associate in The Lewin Group's Healthcare Management practice, and later joined Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's Life Science practice in 2000 as a Senior Consultant. Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Novara earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Villanova University and a Master's degree in healthcare management from Columbia University.
Today, Mr. Novara is a Senior Advisor in the MedTech/Life Science practice for McKinsey & Company. Since early 2023, he has been providing guidance to a diverse range of clients on strategic, commercial, and operational topics with a focus on client capability building, transformation and performance improvement.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Novara was selected into the General Manager Leadership Accelerator and Higher Ambition Leadership Institute programs and received the Global Marketing Excellence and Chief Marketing Officer awards while at Becton Dickinson. He is most proud to have led a talented and highly dedicated team and organization to produce vital medical products for hospitals and the global vaccination campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Novara is also published in cancer research and managed care.
