Gunjan Sharma Recognized by Marquis Who's Who

Gunjan Sharma serves as an expert in mixed lymphoid and pediatric leukemia research

Ms. Sharma is most proud to be involved in the research of the Insulin Like Growth Factor 2 RNA-Binding protein family in B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 18, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gunjan Sharma has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on over five years of expertise in the field of health care, Ms. Sharma specializes in pediatric leukemia research. Since 2022, she has found much success as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California in Los Angeles. In this capacity, she and her team are working to understand the pathogenesis and metabolic changes involved in the cancer stem cells that modulate the high level aggressiveness exhibited in mixed lineage lymphoid leukemia. Ms. Sharma initially began her career serving as a doctoral researcher at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Sharma pursued an education at Shivaji College, University of Delhi, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2014. She continued her academic efforts at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, earning a Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology in 2016. As a commitment to her field, she is certified in animal research and has been active as a member with the European Hematology Association and American Association for Cancer Research. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Sharma contributes to many social organizations including the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Sharma is most proud to be involved in the research of the Insulin Like Growth Factor 2 RNA-Binding protein family in B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her study revealed that the overexpression of IGF2BP1, a member of this family of proteins, contributed to extremely high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of a particular subtype of B-ALL (ETV6::RUNX1 translocation positive leukemia). Furthermore, from the murine bone marrow transplant experiments it became evident that this protein also alters different physiological processes including the metabolism of a cancer stem cell. Reflecting on her achievements, she attributes much of her success to her mentors, including Dr. Jayanth Kumar Palanichamy and Dr. Dinesh S. Rao. Looking toward the future, Ms. Sharma aspires to return to India to serve and assist the numerous unfortunate children suffering from leukemia, especially those who are treated in poor medical facilities and live in underprivileged conditions.
