NORMAN, OK, October 25, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Rhonda C. Williams has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Well regarded for her expertise in forensic biology, Dr. Williams lends more than 15 years of expertise to her role as associate professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she teaches and is involved with research in her field. In 2023, she was honored on the list of Women in STEM by The Journal Record.

Dr. Williams's performance in the field was born of her academic journey. She began her educational pursuits by earning a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Oklahoma in 2000, followed by a Master of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2003. Finally, continuing her studies at the University of Oklahoma, she earned a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology in 2006.

Upon completing her doctoral studies, Dr. Williams accepted a position as a DNA analyst for the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. She went on to hold roles as a professor with ICDC College and the University of Phoenix, auditor for the National Forensic Science Technology Center, and senior criminologist for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. In 2014, she joined the faculty of the University of Central Oklahoma, first as an adjunct faculty member in 2014 and as an associate professor in 2021.

Among her career accomplishments, Dr. Williams is especially proud of her participation in a case where DNA was not pertinent and the absence of a body presented a challenge to the prosecution. Despite these obstacles, her team persisted, ultimately cracking the case by discovering a charred tooth in the housing surrounding the garbage disposal.

To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. Williams has maintained her professional affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations, including the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors, Inc. She is a fellow of the American Board of Criminalistics.

Outside of work, Dr. Williams enjoys spending time with her husband, Kyle, and child, Riley, and traveling, reading and serving as a board member for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Looking toward the future, she aims to continue her contributions to the world of forensics, especially working working to improve the process to help forensic labs decrease the DNA backlog.
