Joachim G. Voss, PhD, RN, ACRN, FAAN, Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Voss' work has been published extensively throughout the field, with peer-reviewed articles appearing in such publications as the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.

    SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH, October 25, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joachim G. Voss, PhD, RN, ACRN, FAAN, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With more than two decades of success to his credit in the field of medical-surgical research, Dr. Voss has distinguished himself as the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing Education at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, the nursing institution of Case Western Reserve University, where he has served as the director of the PhD nursing program since 2019. In these roles, he has mentored more than 30 students, many of whom have gone on to pursue successful careers in their own right. Bearing a particular specialization in nursing education, Dr. Voss' area of expertise largely resides in the symptom management of patients living with chronic illnesses, such as HIV and cancer. Prior to his current endeavors, he served as the director of the Sarah Cole Hirsh Center for Evidence-Based Practice at CWRU from 2015 to 2019.

Dr. Voss was previously affiliated with the University of Washington for nearly 10 years, during which time he served as an Assistant and Associate professor at the School of Nursing and conducted a wealth of research on the subject of treatment approaches for patients afflicted by fatigue and mitochondrial dysfunction. During this time, he is most proud to have developed a symptom management regimen for 12 of the most common symptoms of HIV and published it through the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC).

Originally hailing from Germany, Dr. Voss studied nursing education at the University of Bremen, from which he received a master's degree in 2000. Coming to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar, he went on to attend the University of California San Francisco, where he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing science in 2003. Throughout the course of his academic journey, he benefited richly from the tutelage of various mentors, including Dr. William L. Holzemer, his dissertation chair and one of the most influential figures in his career. Dr. Voss initially began his career endeavors at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a constituent organization of the National Institutes of Health, where he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship and began to focus his career on the relationship between mitochondrial function and fatigue.

Well-regarded for his scholarly prowess, Dr. Voss' work has been published extensively throughout the field, with peer-reviewed articles appearing in such publications as the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, Nephrology Nursing Journal, the Journal of Psychiatric Research, AIDS Care, and African Health Sciences, to name only a few. Likewise acclaimed for his accomplishments in the field of health care, he has received numerous accolades. Among them, he was bestowed with a Distinguished Service Award from the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) in 2022, a Frank Lamendola Achievement Award for Nursing Leadership from ANAC in 2019, and an ANA Luther Chrisman Award in 2015. Additionally, he was honored as the Symptom Science RIG Researcher of the Year by MNRS in 2020, as the Researcher of the Year by the Association of Nursing Leadership in 2019, and as an inductee of the Sigma Theta Tau International Researcher Hall of Fame in 2019. He is also a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing since 2014.

Outside of his career efforts, Dr. Voss harbors a great passion for singing and growing orchids and has serves as president of the Greater Cleveland Orchid Society. Looking toward the future, he aspires to become the dean of a School of Nursing and leave a lasting legacy for the next generation of nursing academics, researchers, and clinical nurses.
