She enjoys sharing her wisdom and Japanese heritage at venues throughout the country, including institutions, libraries, and cultural events.

VAUGHN, WA, October 30, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lori Tsugawa Whaley has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For the past 15 years, Ms. Whaley has focused her career on being a speaker, author, life coach, and Samurai Strategist. A third-generation Japanese American and expert in the Code of Bushido, she enjoys sharing her wisdom and Japanese heritage at venues throughout the country, including institutions, libraries, and cultural events.

Ms. Whaley looks forward to participating in a variety of workshops and seminars in the future as she expands her knowledge and expertise. She is working on an immersion program in Japanese culture to be offered in the near future that will include martial arts, tea ceremonies, experiencing Japanese foods, and learning more about the Code of Bushido, the code of conduct of the ancient Japanese Samurai warriors.

Ms. Whaley self-published "The Courage of a Samurai: Seven Sword-Sharp Principles for Success" in 2016. This was a formidable accomplishment, as she began penning the book after being diagnosed with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and undergoing extensive treatment. Her daily research and writing became a form of therapy that contributed to her successful recovery. Two years after self-publishing and posting her book on Amazon.com, she was offered a contract for a new edition, "Let the Samurai Be Your Guide: The Seven Bushido Pathways to Personal Success." This new edition was published in 2020 by Tuttle Publishing, an international publishing house.

Ms. Whaley was a successful transition counselor for incarcerated women through Interaction Transition, a nonprofit agency in Seattle, Washington, from 2008-2018. She also served as an educator at the local Tacoma Rescue Mission. Additional accomplishments include two TEDx talks. She garnered recognition as a speaker for Humanities Washington, a nonprofit organization based in Seattle that opens minds and bridges divides to engage different perspectives throughout the state.

Along with her other endeavors, Ms. Whaley has been active as a storyteller of Japanese folktales, participating in events associated with the Japanese American community, schools, colleges, Japanese cultural events and retirement centers. This provided an opportunity to engage with a wide range of generations, cultures, and ethnic groups while helping expand her knowledge of Japanese culture and language.

As a leader in her civic community, Ms. Whaley remains an active member of Toastmasters International, which recognized her accomplishments with an Advanced Leader Bronze Award in 2010 and an Advanced Communicator Gold Award in 2011. She attributes her success to her Japanese heritage, hard work, and determination learned as a farmer's daughter.

Ms. Whaley graduated from Portland State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts. As part of her continued professional commitments, she is a member of the Japan-American Society of the State of Washington, the Japanese American Citizens League, the Japanese Community & Cultural Center of Washington, CEO Space, and eWomen Network.
