Donice Smith Lauded for Excellence in Journalism, Nursing, and the Military

Ms. Smith retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant after 35 years of service

    ROSEBURG, OR, November 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Donice Smith has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Graduating from Pleasant Hill High school, Ms. Smith joined the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman. She volunteered for Vietnam to assist with returning soldiers, and for "Operation Babylift," but was rerouted to South Korea, where she was stationed when Vietnam fell. Subsequently, she served in the Army Reserves, six years in the Army National Guard, and with the Wounded Warrior Transition Program. Similarly, she worked with the Department of the Treasury and the Department of the Navy. She raised five children full time, while balancing part-time schooling and military career as a corpsman, in finance, and as an EMT 68W nurse and Army instructor. More than 35 years after joining the military, she retired as a master sergeant. Over the years, Ms. Smith also gained valuable professional experience volunteering in various fields, including as a member of California's Contra Costa County grand jury's "Blue Ribbon Task Force" on bureaucratic abuse, as a radio and media broadcaster/show host, and as a guest on the "Moms Across America" podcast. She also has experience writing as a freelance journalist.

In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. Smith is affiliated with the International Society for Women Professionals, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Winston Post), where she is the senior vice commander, and the Vietnam Veterans Association of America. An expert in her field, she studied at a military school, as well as San José State University and Diablo Valley College. She also holds an Associate of Arts from Leeward Community, a nursing diploma from Los Medanos College, two associate degrees through Umpqua Community College, and a bachelor's degree in history, English and creative writing from Eastern Oregon University. Currently, Ms. Smith is studying for a master's degree in education, which she will complete in 2025.

In light of her outstanding breadth of knowledge, Ms. Smith wrote articles under her pen name, Maggie Rose McGrath, for the American Free Press; additionally, she has contributed to the Roseburg Beacon and others. In 2022, KQEN News Radio 1240 featured Ms. Smith in her capacity as a 2022 Oregon gubernatorial candidate. For her service to the nation, Ms. Smith was awarded two Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Award for Global Terrorism, and various other awards through the U.S. Army. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in her five children. She is also proud of her volunteer work with her uncle "Hugh O'Brian's Youth Leadership Foundation," and becoming an assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America. Ms. Smith assists with issues such as child/sex trafficking and homelessness. In the coming years, Ms. Smith aims to continue helping others through politics.

In her downtime, she has had small parts in films, such as "The George Wallace Story," and she also loves to garden and work on family history/genealogy. She is a strong advocate for volunteerism. Ms. Smith's favorite poem, and one that she feels describes her best, is "The Road Not Taken," by Robert Frost.
