Over the years, Dr. Ferrari gained valuable expertise in the field of pain pharmacology as a scientist at the University of California, San Francisco, working as research pharmacologist for the University's Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His achievements as scientist have supported his role as educator, lecturing pharmacology and physiology, as he also used to do in his home country, Brazil, as a professor at the University of São Paulo and in clinical educational institutes. Likewise, he successfully managed a private practice dental office between 1998 and 2008, mostly performing oral surgery and implantology. Outside of his work, Dr. Ferrari contributed to his community by providing dental treatment to special needs children through institutions such as the Society for the Recovery of Children with Brain Palsy, and also by teaching science to children through the University of California San Francisco's Science and Health Education Partnership.
An expert in his field, Dr. Ferrari earned a DDS from the University of São Paulo in 1996 and completed a residency in orofacial surgery/orofacial pain three years later. Subsequently, he expanded upon his professional knowledge, receiving a master's degree and PhD in neuroscience and pharmacology from the University of São Paulo Medical School in 2004 and 2008, respectively. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Ferrari maintains alignment with the Society of Neuroscience and the Experimental Pharmacology Society.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Ferrari takes the most pride in the research he has conducted on chronic pain treatments, which he has conducted alongside a Nobel Prize-winning scientist.
