Dr. Daniel Ram channels years of expertise into his work with the University of Central Florida

Within the next five to ten years, Dr. Ram intends to continue to grow his laboratory and further develop his presence in the HIV, cancer, and Alzheimer's research spaces.

ORLANDO, FL, November 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Daniel Ram has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Born and raised in Guyana, Dr. Ram was originally intent on pursuing medical school. However, due to a fortuitous set of circumstances, he was unable to submit test results in time, which led to him being unable to apply. Subsequently, he taught high school for a semester before deciding to alter his path and apply to Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. While studying biology and chemistry, Dr. Ram interned at the Partners AIDS Research Center (now the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard) while also working as a researcher at the United States Department of Agriculture in the Agricultural Research Service and at Concordia College's Global Vaccine Institute.

Upon graduating from Concordia College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry in 2009, Dr. Ram expanded upon his professional knowledge, earning a PhD in Immunology at Tufts University followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. As a result of his community service at Harvard Medical School and in Rhode Island he was honored with the Shapiro Institute Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Ram was appointed as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School in 2020 where he began his independent research program. In 2023, Dr. Ram was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences in the University of Central Florida. His research focus examines how infection and disease modulate alternative gene splicing within immune cells and relevant tissues in mice, nonhuman primates, and humans.

Outside of his work, Dr. Ram contributes to his community by volunteering in various church activities as well as through organizations like Fostering Hope and local community youth mentoring programs. In light of his outstanding body of work, he won the Dean's Community Service Award from Harvard Medical School and several Early Stage Investigator Awards from the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in his work advancing the relevance of exploring alternative gene splicing using long-read RNA sequencing approaches. The cornerstone of his overall success lies in his faith and the support of his family, friends, peers, and mentors. Within the next five to ten years, Dr. Ram intends to continue to grow his laboratory and further develop his presence in the HIV, cancer, and Alzheimer's research spaces.
