Leveraging more than a decade of excellence in research on polymer chemistry, Mr. Barros has earned distinction as a senior professional research assistant with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Having joined the university as a professional research assistant in 2022, since 2023 he has focused his efforts on working in a doubly labeled water lab for metabolism studies, utilizing integrated cavity optical spectroscopy to track deuterium in labeled water given to the study participants.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Barros holds numerous patents, including one for polymer chemistry. He is also proud of his participation in a Bridges to Biomedical Careers program to transition to a four-year school at Colorado State University Pueblo, which led to his admission to the chemistry program conducting biochemistry research under the guidance of Dr. Sandra Bonetti.
Before his present role, Mr. Barros served as a senior research assistant for the University of Colorado Denver School of Dental Medicine in 2009 and became a GPC service specialist for Tosoh Bioscience LLC in 2021. To prepare for his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology from Colorado State University Pueblo in 2006.
Within the coming years, Mr. Barros intends to expand his knowledge and expertise in his current position with the goal of gaining a deeper understanding of metabolism studies and related areas. He is grateful to be collaborating with his respected mentors, Drs. Ed Melanson and Seth Creasey, enabling him to become an expert in his field.
