Rene Reifarth, PhD Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Physics

Dr. Rene Reifarth channels years of expertise into his work with Los Alamos National Laboratory

While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Reifarth is most proud of developing a new technology for protoninduced nuclear reactions.

SANTA FE, NM, November 27, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rene Reifarth has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After graduating from high school in 1992, Dr. Reifarth earned a diploma in physics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Driven to further his education, he received a PhD from the University of Tübingen, Germany, before joining Los Alamos National Laboratory as a physicist the same year. Five years later, he returned to Germany as a professor at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt a. Main. Over the years, Dr. Reifarth has also served as the University's deputy managing director, vice dean of physics, and dean of physics.

Backed by years of varied expertise in scientific research and education, Dr. Reifarth presently excels as a senior scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In this capacity, he measures reaction rates by determining the frequency with which neutrons react with nuclei. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Reifarth aligns himself with the American Physics Society, the German Physical Society, through which he has volunteered for numerous presentations, the European Physical Society, and the Nuclear Physics Division Board.

Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Reifarth has contributed to a plethora of research grants for topics such as "Neutron captures constraining stellar nucleosynthesis" and "Proton-Induced Reactions for Astrophysical NucleOsynthesis." Given his professional achievements, he won a scholarship from Los Alamos National Laboratory, became the Glynn Family Visiting Professor of Physics at the University of Notre Dame, and was honored as the LANL Rosen Scholar.

While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Reifarth is most proud of developing a new technology for protoninduced nuclear reactions. Rather than inundating one sample with protons, he established a method for proton capture and inverse kinematics using ion storage rings. Looking ahead, Dr. Reifarth intends to establish a similar method in the field of neutron research.
