MCLEAN, VA, November 27, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lee Sanders, CAE, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leading up to Ms. Sanders' expansive career in government relations, public affairs, legislative and regulatory policy, and food and agribusiness, she attended the University of Mississippi and received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and minored in international affairs in 1985. While pursuing a bachelor's degree, she was involved in numerous civic and philanthropic engagements, holding the positions of secretary of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and president of Phi Kappa Tau Little Sister organization. Additionally, Ms. Sanders served as a staff writer for the university's newspaper, the Daily Mississippian. After graduating, she carved out an equally as involved career.

From 1985 to 1992, Ms. Sanders served as a U.S. Senate Labor Committee staff and legislative aide in the office of Senator Thad Cochran. Following her entrance into the political sphere, she continued her work as a White House counsel staff member and for the U.S. Treasury Department for legislative affairs under the administration of President George H.W. Bush. Thereafter, she held the position of senior vice president of the American Bakers Association for nearly two decades. During that time, Ms. Sanders became a certified association executive (CAE) through the American Society of Association Executives in 2009 and went on to become the president of the Society of Bakery Women, an organization which provides networking opportunities for women in the baking industry and mentors students pursuing a career in the industry.

While occupying this position, Ms. Sanders earned certifications through the University of Virginia Darden School of Business; in 2017 and 2018, she completed executive education certificates in strategic analysis and decision-making program followed by leading teams for growth and change. Along with occupying the role of president for the Society of Bakery Women, a position she has held since 2012 and still holds, Ms. Sanders became a board member for the Business-Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC) in 2018. Additionally, in tandem with her career, she has devoted time to civic engagements in her community and in the realm of her work.

Ms. Sanders is a member of the University of Mississippi's Political Science Advisory Board. She is the former chair for the Cereals & Grains Association (Milling & Baking Division); the Food & Beverage Issue Alliance (FBIA), an organization of different food trade associations that serves as a communications platform with FDA and other Federal agencies; and the Taste of The South Charity Gala Chair. She also served as chair for the Grain Chain Coalition; and past ASB Scientific Advisory Committee, and former chair of the Wheat Quality Council in Kansas City. In her local community, Ms. Sanders has volunteered her time as a summer program teacher at her church.

Over the course of her educational and professional career, Ms. Sanders has won numerous awards, including those from the Rho Lambda Panhellenic Leadership Honorary, among others, as well as the Young Leadership Award from the Baking & Snack Magazine in 2009, the Influential 20 in Baking Management in 2009, and the Full Kernel Award for her outstanding contributions to the improvement of wheat and flour quality in the U.S. Moreover, she received recognition from the American Society of Baking, earning the Robert A. Fisher Distinguished Service Award in 2021. In all she has accomplished, Ms. Sanders attributes her success to her ability to collaborate and network, which has afforded her a robust network of professional friends and colleagues who have shown her immense support over the years.

In assessing her career thus far, Ms. Sanders notes her most noteworthy achievement as helping to develop and lead the FBIA. What started as a platform for communicating with the Food and Drug Administration's senior officials grew to a strong alliance made up of roughly 50 trade associations over the past decade; since then, they have become a reputable source of information for the agency. Looking forward, Ms. Sanders' goal is to apply her nearly 40 years of expertise and skill set from both her association work and food legislative and regulatory policy to this new chapter of her career. Whether consulting or joining another organization, she is eager to continue her career as a results-driven executive.
