Dr. Chiantella is a leading Board-certified general surgeon and surgical oncologist who established her private practice in northern Virginia in 1989. Renowned for her special expertise, after over a decade in general surgery practice she focused exclusively on the specialty of breast surgical oncology, surgical care for both benign breast conditions and breast cancer. She affiliated her practice with Loudoun Medical Group in 2015, eventually taking the lead as the director of the LGC Comprehensive Breast Center, an interdisciplinary practice integrating surgical care with radiology/imaging and medical oncology.
Dr. Chiantella strives to provide her patients with the education necessary to allow each individual to make fully informed decisions about their treatment. Dedicated to her patients' well-being, Dr. Chiantella remains steadfast in directing her attention toward the unique personal needs of each patient. This also includes attention to the financial toxicity that can be associated with cancer treatment. In recognition of this side effect of cancer care, Dr. Chiantella founded the Loudoun Breast Health Network, a nonprofit dedicated to the provision of financial support to patients in Loudoun County undergoing breast cancer treatment. Funds have been used for everything from car repairs to allow patients to get to and from their treatment safely, help with electric or other household bills, provision of grocery cards, gas cards, and more. Dr. Chiantella also established and provided care to the region's only free clinic dedicated to breast conditions, operating through the Loudoun County Health Department, and has provided decades of pro bono work to other regional community free clinics and clinics for the underserved.
Dr. Chiantella is a graduate of Georgetown University, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1979. She subsequently earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University (now known as Wake Forest University School of Medicine, at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC) in 1983. Notably, she then went on to be the first woman to successfully complete a General Surgery Residency at that same institution, serving as Chief Resident in General Surgery in 1988-1989. Along with her Board Certification with the American Board of Surgery, she is a Fellow in the America College of Surgeons, a founding member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and has been named a Top Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine on multiple occasions, including the upcoming 2023 edition.
