In the industry, he held several high-level positions, including vice president for MetLife Premier Client Group and senior vice president and CMO at Farmers New World Life Insurance Company, Zurich Financial Services. Moreover, Mr. Pierce spent time abroad with AIA as the chief executive officer in New Zealand, and prior to that, vice president of Southeast Asia's marketing operations in Hong Kong, and vice president of marketing in Singapore. During an earlier stage of his career, he held roles with American General Life & Accident and Mid-Continent Life.
While at American General, Mr. Pierce was notably responsible for launching the Life Insurance Awareness Week Marketing Program, which inspired Life Happens, a nonprofit organization celebrating September as Life Insurance Awareness Month in the U.S. to adopt the concept. Among other accomplishments, Mr. Pierce led the AIA regional marketing team in the creation of the AIA Financial Health Check a marketing system for all AIA agents through Southeastern Asia.
Mr. Pierce authored "Five Pillars of a Tremendous Life: Inside Out Living and What Matters Most" in 2009, second edition, 2010. He is also a columnist for the Journal of Financial Service Professionals, focusing on insurance and risk management topics.
Active civically, Mr. Pierce is presently a Stephen Minister and Stephen Leader at a local United Methodist Church. In years past, he served as the March of Dimes board chair in Nashville, as a board member the Alzheimer Association in Seattle, and as a board member for the American Chamber of Commerce Board in New Zealand.
Mr. Pierce graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in communications from American University in 1974, a Master of Arts in communications from the University of Minnesota in 1989, and a Master of Science in management and a Master of Science in financial services from The American College of Financial Services in 1999 and 2015 respectively. Furthermore, Mr. Pierce garnered numerous designations in his industry, including accredited estate planner, chartered leadership fellow, chartered financial consultant, chartered life underwriter, and certified financial fiduciary.
