Oyedele A. Adeyi, MB, BS (MD), FRCPC, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    MAPLEWOOD, MN, December 11, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Oyedele A. Adeyi, MB, BS (MD), FRCPC, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than two decades of excellence in liver transplant pathology, Dr. Adeyi has earned distinction as a professor and pathologist with the University of Minnesota Medical School. Having been a pathologist there since 2019, and before then at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he has focused his efforts on reviewing biopsies for numerous patients each week and discussing cases with other clinicians. He is also responsible for training fellows and residents while engaging in clinical service. He was admitted as a fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of Canada in 2007. Additionally, he is a valued member of the College of American Pathologists, having served as a member of the surgical pathology committee for six years, and currently the vice-chair of the pathology committee of the International Liver Transplant Society.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Adeyi began his career as a teacher and pathologist at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and focused his practice on liver transplant pathology since 2006, when he joined the University of Toronto. During this period, he served in many leadership roles including chairman of the education committee for the Hans Popper Hepatopathology Society from 2013 until 2016; and chairperson of the Pathology Associates at the University Health Network (2016), among others. In 2019, Dr. Adeyi was honored with a Canadian National Award in Leadership in Education by the Canadian Association of Pathologists. Since 2019 and now, after relocating to the University of Minnesota, he has been named a Top Doctor by St. Paul Magazine in 2022 and 2023. He is proud to have risen from growing up in a small, unmarked village in Nigeria, West Africa to achieving a position at a prestigious university. Dr. Adeyi focused on mentoring and creating opportunities for young pathologists, and many of his mentees are currently successful academic and community pathologists in several countries, including the USA and Canada. In his words, this represents his most important professional contribution, and he hopes his legacy is defined by this.

To prepare for his medical career, Dr. Adeyi earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Ibadan in 1987. Following this achievement, he completed a pathology residency at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in 1997 and was a research fellow in renal pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School in 2000. He subsequently underwent a residency program in combined anatomic and clinical pathology at the Dartmouth Medical School/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Hanover, NH from 2001 to 2005, followed by post-residency fellowship in liver and transplantation pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2005.

Within the coming years, Dr. Adeyi intends to focus more on creating opportunities for younger people, regardless of their background. His ultimate goal is to leave a legacy that ensures at least one individual benefits from his existence each year, whether at the university or elsewhere.
