Ms. Constance M. V. de la Vega, Esq., is noted for her distinguished tenure in human rights law and education

OAKLAND, CA, December 12, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Constance M.V. de la Vega, Esq., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. de la Vega enjoyed a remarkable career as an attorney and educator, having retired in May 2023. Named an emeritus law professor at the University of San Francisco (USF), she spent over 30 years on campus. Initially serving as an attorney handling civil litigation cases, she transitioned into supervising the human rights clinic. While at the clinic, Ms. de la Vega occasionally filed cases involving international law at U.S. courts, calling on her students for support. She also lectured several courses focused on international law and procedures, including International Human Rights, and American Legal Systems, a course for foreign students studying in the US.

Beginning her law career by representing low-income individuals, Ms. de la Vega focused on housing rights. She was also involved with public benefits and other related issues. Throughout her distinguished professional journey, she found success with the Legal Aid Society of Alameda County for more than a decade, during which time she filed several class action cases. She was also involved with the East Palo Alto Community Law Project.

During her extensive tenure, Ms. de la Vega initiated a process in the U.S. that included looking into international human rights standards and handling such issues nationwide. She also worked on a case that eliminated the death penalty in the US for juveniles, which cited international law. Among other notable achievements, Ms. de la Vega was involved in developing USF's international program, which includes summer programs in various cities worldwide, including China.

Ms. de la Vega believes that her success was due to her decision to pursue international human rights law, a niche area that did not garner much attention. Additionally, because she graduated from the University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley), it was easier for her to publish her studies and shed more light on her work.

As a dedicated civil advocate, Ms. de la Vega has spent over four decades as a board member and treasurer for Human Rights Advocates. She has also donated to such organizations as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Looking toward the future, Ms. de la Vega plans to continue advocating and providing professional advice to others regarding various human rights issues and being actively involved in cases.

Ms. de la Vega graduated from Scripps College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in international relations. She also received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of California Berkeley in 1978.
