Anna R. Holloway, PhD is a writer, editor, and former Fort Valley State University dean and professor



She was instrumental in the development of innovative programs including Fort Valley State University's mass communications, technical writing, and liberal studies majors.

    FORT VALLEY, GA, December 12, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anna R. Holloway, PhD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Holloway is an independent writer, editor, and educator celebrating more than five decades of career success. Inspired by her father, a professor, and a desire to make a positive impact on others, Dr. Holloway decided to pursue a career in academia at a young age. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1967 and a Master of Arts in English in 1968. In 1980, Dr. Holloway was awarded her Doctor of Philosophy in English by Kent State University with a dissertation on Henry James, George Eliot, and the center of consciousness. Dr. Holloway had a teaching fellowship while attending Kent State University. Throughout her career, Dr. Holloway has continued to pursue additional coursework in editing, technical writing, and other topics in language and literature at institutions including Georgia State University, Jackson State University, and the University of Denver.

In 1968, Dr. Holloway joined the faculty of Fort Valley State University, beginning a 46-year career as a professor of English. In addition to teaching composition, literature, technical writing, communications, and creative writing classes, Dr. Holloway was an active mentor to students and oversaw the school's creative writing club. She was instrumental in the development of innovative programs including Fort Valley State University's mass communications, technical writing, and liberal studies majors. In 2006, Dr. Holloway became dean of graduate studies and extended education, a position she held until her retirement from Fort Valley State University in 2014. Following her departure from Fort Valley State University, Dr. Holloway continued to teach and develop curriculum for the University System of Georgia's eCore system.

Dr. Holloway has written and published extensively on literary history, with a focus on detective novels, midcentury popular fiction, and African American literature, and is the author of a mystery novel and "Looking for Jazz: A Memoir about the Black College and Southern Town That Changed My Life," an examination of her early years as a professor. She is an independent editor, ghostwriter, and consultant, and has offered clients a comprehensive range of developmental and copyediting services through ARH Editing & Consulting since 2014.

In recognition of her lifelong dedication to creating opportunities through education, Dr. Holloway has been the recipient of accolades including a John W. Davidson Award from Fort Valley State University and a gold sponsor award for her support of Fort Valley State University's scholarship programs. She is a member of the Broadleaf Writers Association and has been affiliated with numerous writer's groups and workshops. Outside the literary sphere, Dr. Holloway has been active in her community as a lay chaplain and food pantry volunteer. She is currently working on a book project for publication in the next five years, with plans for additional memoirs about her parents and her experience as a member of an interracial family in rural Georgia.
