SAUGUS, MA, December 12, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David C. Michels, Esq., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than a decade of excellence in legal practice, Mr. Michels has earned distinction as a general counsel with the Massachusetts Health Care Services Board. Having been an assistant general counsel since 2010, since 2017 he has focused his efforts on overseeing contractual agreements, recruitment and legal proceedings related to Polaroid funding. Additionally, he is a valued member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Massachusetts Legal Help Center.

To prepare for his professional journey, Mr. Michels earned a bachelor's degree from Boston College and a Master of Business Administration from the Suffolk University Sawyer Business School. Following these achievements, he attained a Juris Doctor from the Suffolk University Law School in 2010.

Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Michels considers the Malden Mills Polaroid line of cases in Massachusetts as the most momentous milestone in his career. This was a case of first impression, as it involved a situation that had never been encountered before, where self-insured entities, which are theoretically expected to have adequate funds for covering all the injured workers, were declared bankrupt for the first time. The policies in place left injured workers in a precarious situation. Mr. Michels' litigation played a significant role in reforming the law and holding the insurance companies accountable, leading to better protection for the safety of the workers.

Within the coming years, Mr. Michels intends to contribute to the development of a robust mental health workers' compensation law in Massachusetts, focusing on enhancing the rates of medical services under workers' compensation. Although most states have a sliding scale-based medical fee schedule determined by statute, the current rates in Massachusetts have not been updated for twelve years, and so individuals seeking medical care are facing difficulties in accessing services due to doctors refusing to offer their services for the limited compensation. He aspires to correct this and make a positive difference in these workers' lives.
