Marquis Who's Who Selects Sherry P. Young for Success in Special Education

Ms. Sherry P. Young is noted for her contributions as a dedicated educator with the Alief Independent School District



In light of her contributions to the field, Ms. Young was named as the Teacher of the Year for the 2014-2015 academic school year.

    HOUSTON, TX, December 13, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sherry P. Young has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Young has been a dedicated educator for the Alief Independent School District in southwest Houston since 2005. As an autism coach, she focuses on special education, addressing various behaviors and catering to learning-disabled and other special needs students. Ms. Young is also a dedicated mathematics educator and interventionist and, since 2022, has also served as an autism-in-class support coach.

Throughout her career in education, Ms. Young most notably implemented a successful and appropriate intervention program for a child who exhibited extremely aggressive behavior toward peers and staff members. The child also threatened to cause harm to others via explosions, arson, and acid.

Before pivoting into education, Ms. Young spent over a decade in corporate America. She aims to retire from the classroom in the next five years and transition into an administrative role.

A leader in her community, Ms. Young has volunteered with the Alief Special Olympics and the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo since 2005. Ms. Young also volunteered with the Rodeo Calf Scramble Committee as a Captain and Vice-Chairman from 2008 to 2010 and was the head of delegation for the Alief Special Olympics from 2017 to 2022.

Ms. Young prepared for her career in teaching by achieving a Bachelor of Science in agriculture education from Tarleton State University and a master's degree in education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix. She holds certifications as a generalist EC-4, in physical education EC-12, in special education EC-12, and as an English as a second language generalist EC-4. Ms. Young is a professional member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) and Autism Speaks.

In light of her contributions to the field, Ms. Young was named as the Teacher of the Year for the 2014-2015 academic school year. She also received an educational grant and several scholarships from ATPE to support her work. Ms. Young recognizes several remarkable administrators for her success and for supporting her throughout her career.
