She subsequently worked as a marketing manager for Oxford Health Plans, LLC for more than five years before concluding her education at New York University, where she obtained a Master of Arts in occupational therapy in 2002. Throughout the following 10 years, Ms. Shechter was appointed as the director of breast cancer and lymphedema rehabilitation and as an occupational therapist at Madison Avenue Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness, Inc. in New York City.

She currently serves as the aforementioned organization's president and as the director of rehabilitation. Ms. Shechter also focuses on educating her patients about lymphedema management, helping her patients return to their regular lifestyle and advocating on her patients' behalf while communicating with physicians, oncologists and other health care providers.
Alongside her responsibilities at ShechterCare, Ms. Shechter excels as a medical advisor with the 5 Under 40 Foundation, which offers medical and wellness education to women under the age of 40. Likewise, Ms. Shechter has been selected to share her expertise as a guest speaker at a host of educational organizations and support services including New York University, the Valley Health System, Survivor Journeys and Lymphie Strong. Moreover, she has additionally been recruited as a guest speaker for various nonprofit organizations such as Gilda's Club, Breastcancer.org, the American Cancer Society, Inc. and METAvivor, which promotes awareness of advanced breast cancer.
In 2015, Ms. Shechter was honored as the "Advocate of the Year" on behalf of the Lymphatic Education and Research Network. She has also been distinguished with another accolade in relation to patient advocacy on behalf of the aforementioned organization. In order to stay up to date with the latest developments in her field, Ms. Shechter maintains active affiliations with the National Lymphedema Network, the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators and the National Consortium of Breast Centers, Inc.
In addition to her genuine compassion for her patients, Ms. Shechter attributes a great deal of her success to her ability to effectively communicate the benefits of occupational therapy and rehabilitation to potential patients. She is particularly proud to have successfully relocated her business to New Jersey in 2019. In the coming years, Ms. Shechter intends to pursue a doctoral program in relation to breast cancer and lymphedema while establishing a New Jersey-based support group for her patients through the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators.
