Affiliated with Douglas Elliman since 2001, Mr. Murphy also garnered valuable expertise as the executive vice president and head of commercial real estate operations. In 2003, he was responsible for bringing the idea of a commercial unit at Douglas Elliman to fruition to address referrals from the firm's residential offices. Since that time, Mr. Murphy has leveraged his business acumen to develop a blossoming client base, completing over $1 billion in real estate transactions, including hotels, shopping centers, office and industrial leases, and retail developments with national chains, among others.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Murphy served as a managing principal at Global Commercial Realty and spent nearly a decade in the hospitality sector as the owner and operator of the "Dublin" Group, a chain of restaurants and bars across Long Island such as the Dublin Down, Dublin Over, Dublin Deck, Planet Dublin and more. He also owned Murphy's Law and Venue 56 and currently owns Prato 850, a gastro pub in Commack, New York. Looking toward future success, Mr. Murphy aims to pursue a better work-life balance while continuously scaling Douglas Elliman's commercial division.
Civically, Mr. Murphy is active with various nonprofits, including the Sunshine Kids, the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Toys for Tots and All Inclusive Lacrosse. He has held a Bachelor of Arts in business management from C.W. Post's Long Island University since 1995 and a Master of Business Administration in international finance and business from Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland, since 1996. Remaining at the forefront of his field, Mr. Murphy is active as a member of several prominent professional societies, including the Commercial Industrial Brokers Society of Long Island, the Long Island Commercial Network, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
In light of his success, Mr. Murphy received Long Island's 40 Under 40 Award in 2007 and won several coveted CoStar Power Broker Awards each year from 2016 to 2019. He also received numerous Pinnacle, Platinum and Top Broker Awards from Douglas Elliman, who named him the #1 Commercial Broker for GCI and Transactions within the Elliman Network. Notably, he also was honored as Long Island Business News' Top Commercial Broker for 2017. Mr. Murphy attributes his success to his philanthropy efforts, networking capabilities, integrity and ongoing education.
