With more than a decade of excellence in internal medicine, Dr. Akolbire has earned distinction as a dedicated physician and leader currently with Apogee Physicians Group. Since 2021, he has focused his efforts on caring for patients in the underserved regions of southern Virginia, USA, contributing his quota to bridging the gap in quality healthcare delivery between urban and rural settings. Among his professional accomplishments, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in 2021 for his leadership, community service and scholarship.

Dr. Akolbire began his career working with the Legion of Mary, an international religious organization that emphasizes compassion for the ill and less fortunate of society such as prisoners. He was appointed the president of his local chapter through his diligent efforts. This was his motivation to study medicine, during which time he continued to demonstrate his volunteerism by regularly participating in medical outreaches to rural areas in Ghana to provide free heath screening and education to the locals. His professional career blossomed at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, Ghana where he served as a junior house officer in 2012 and then a senior house officer at Tema General Hospital in 2013. Following this time, he served as a medical officer with the International SOS/West African Rescue Association in 2015 until becoming a resident physician at Howard University Hospital, Washington, D.C. in 2018. While in this role, he was appointed an ambulatory clinic chief in 2019 and chief resident in 2020 until his graduation in 2021.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Akolbire earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana in 2009. Following this achievement, he attained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the same institution in 2012. Additionally, he is a valued member of the American College of Physicians.

Looking to the near future, Dr. Akolbire intends to continue his commitment to service by providing stellar medical care. He ultimately plans to become a clinical educator at a tertiary institution to train future generations of leaders and scholars.
