Currently serving as a shareholder and senior practice builder at Kimley-Horn in Orlando, Florida since 2021, Mr. Gillespie has established himself as a respected professional in civil engineering with a career spanning over two decades. In his role, he manages a team of 10 employees and is responsible for client management, securing successful bids/proposals for engineering services, and supervises over the final deliverables for a multitude of different projects. He ensures the seamless operation of staff production and upholds rigorous standards of quality control. His level of project management involves executing projects, conducting engineering analyses, designing drainage and utility systems, providing upgrades/repairs of existing utilities/stormwater for various clients, and providing training sessions for his team and quarterly courses for engineers at his office of 280 staff.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Gillespie served as a project manager at Kimley-Horn from 2016 to 2021. His earlier roles include engineering manager at Engineering Design Technologies Inc., in Huntsville, Alabama from 2014 to 2016 and civil engineer at Schoel Engineering (formerly 4Site, Inc.) in Huntsville, Alabama from 2002 to 2014. He began his career as a land surveyor with 4Site Inc., where he honed his foundational skills in the field. An expert in civil site design of manufactured housing communities, single family residential, multifamily residential, recreational vehicle (RV) parks, commercial/retail facilities, and utilities infrastructure, Mr. Gillespie has contributed to the civil design of over 3,000 single-family/manufactured housing sites, over 3,000 rental units for RV parks in 7 different states, several assisted living facilities in Alabama, more than 50 quick service retail stores/restaurants in the southeast US, miles of new roadways, and hundreds of miles of sewer/water mains. Mr. Gillespie's educational background includes a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, earned in 2009, and an Associate of Applied Science in design drafting technologies from Calhoun Community College, earned in 2004 and a Certificate of Residential Development Planning from Calhoun Community College, earned in 2004. His academic achievements have played a significant role in his professional success. Mr. Gillespie knew he wanted to be an engineer at a young age and enrolled in computer aided design drafting (CADD) classes at the local Madison County Career Technical Center during his junior and senior years of high school. During this time, he competed in a statewide design drafting competition where he placed 2nd place in the Alabama SkillsUSA VICA Championships for Design Drafting Competition during his junior year of high school.

Mr. Gillespie's dedication to his profession is matched by his commitment to personal growth and family life. His wife has been instrumental in supporting him throughout his career journey. Her management of domestic responsibilities and unyielding support for Matthew's career has been pivotal to Mr. Gillespie's rise to ownership at one of the nation's leading engineering firms (Kimley-Horn). In his younger years, Matthew helped his grandparents on the family farm, played baseball, fished, hiked and enjoyed generally anything outdoors. This love of the outdoors and with an affinity for mathematics and science, Mr. Gillespie's passion for civil engineering was evident early on as he balanced full-time land surveying work with evening college classes, starting at age 18. The support from 4Site, Inc and his wife, gave him the tools/support for him to work full time during the day while attending evening classes to earn his degrees.

Mr. Gillespie is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds since 2021, the Florida Manufactured Housing Association, the American Society of Civil Engineers since 2014, and the Central Florida Chapter of the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks, Developing Leader from 2017 to 2020.

The couple also has a son who shares Matthew's love for science, math, Lego, construction, and minigolf. Currently, he wants to be construction worker that designs and builds mini golf courses.
