Common New Year's Resolutions and Challenges Across Languages & Cultures, Study Finds

Research Shows People Around The Globe Struggle To Keep Resolutions; New, Free Motivation Mentor AI Coaching App Helps

"Most people cannot afford personal trainers, professional mentors or business coaches. AI-based tools like this will increasingly help fill the gap." –Jan Mion, Consulting Editor, Motivation Pay

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, January 10, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A recent global study shows that, regardless of language or cultural differences, new year resolutions share strikingly similar goals and challenges throughout the world.

And, while the challenges to keep our new year's resolutions may be universal, a free AI-powered app aims to help people everywhere get and stay motivated, and to reach their goals and objectives throughout the year.

New Year's Resolution Research

This research study[1], led by Blake Hallinan, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Communication and Journalism at Tel Aviv University, involved a cross-cultural analysis of New Year's resolutions.

Along with a diverse, international group of contributing researchers, the study analyzed over 160,000 tweets covering over 20 countries and 5 languages (English, German, Italian, Japanese and Korean).

Their findings show that new year's resolutions are a global phenomenon, but also that the values expressed in these resolutions transcend culture and language. There was also no obvious distinction between 'Eastern' and 'Western' value orientations.

The study highlighted the most prominent words used in New Year's resolutions across all languages, which included: Happy, Health, Work/Job, Learn and Read.

Unsurprisingly, the research identified that many self-improvement related objectives were common across all cultures and languages. These involved universal goals such as "making a lot of money" or "being successful", as well as health and appearance targets like "become thin."

Self-acceptance was another type of cross-cultural aspiration. These goals sought greater confidence and self-expression, and reflected sentiments such as "believe in myself" or seeking to 'feel valuable'.

Jan Mion, a certified therapist and the consulting editor to Motivation Pay, noted that "the aspiration that underlies all these other goals is related to effort."

"The research showed that our goals are similar around the globe and so are our struggles. Wherever you are from, the difficulties are not in making new year's resolutions but in keeping them," Mion said.

"That is probably why the 'effort' category – better known as motivation – ranked highest in this study," he added.

An AI Coaching App For That

Getting and staying motivated is the central focus of MotivationPay.com, an online resource launched by a team of writers dedicated to sharing their experiences, struggles and successes with discipline and motivation.

Writer and publisher, Jason Paul, saw an opportunity to apply the new AI technology behind ChatGPT in a more positive and constructive way.

"We are seeing so many AI apps launching, but few are really helping people on a personal level," said Paul.

This was the origin of the free Motivation Mentor AI Coaching app. This easy to use online tool helps people to develop a plan, gain and maintain motivation, and then reach their goals.

"The research confirms that the value type most common across all languages and cultures reflects aspirations like 'focus, determination, and effort in pursuit of goals'," Mion said.

"Most people cannot afford personal trainers, professional mentors or business coaches. AI-based tools like this will increasingly help fill the gap," Mion added.
