Recognized for his work, Mr. Wimmer has been dubbed "Doctor Risk" for his exceptional methodology on determining security risks. He has lived and worked in a dozen countries and has performed security assessments in more than 75 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Mr. Wimmer is known for maintaining sensitive information and has been responsible for protecting some significant government and business senior executives and sensitive information during his career.
In 2015, Mr. Wimmer authored his first solely authored book, "Business Espionage: Risks, Threats and Countermeasures" via Elsevier Publishing. The book focuses on countering business espionage and includes hundreds of examples from his experience.
A lengthy career began in 1972 and Mr. Wimmer's 22-year career in the U.S. Air Force was primarily as a Special Agent in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Wimmer joined Pinkerton Consulting and Investigations. He initially served as a local and then regional manager in Taiwan, Beijing, China and Hong Kong SAR. Later he oversaw Pinkerton's Rocky Mountain Region and then their supply chain security program. In 2015 he became a senior director in corporate risk services for G4S Corporate Risk Services in Jupiter, Florida. In 2021 Mr. Wimmer went back to BSSG full-time and became the president of BSSG. He also has garnered academic expertise as an adjunct faculty member at multiple colleges/universities.
Mr. Wimmer grew up in a small community of Oxford, Nebraska and graduated with honors in a high school senior class of just 40 students. Following high school, he earned a degree in journalism and political science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1971 as an honor graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. He also earned a master's degree in criminal justice from Oklahoma City University where he graduated with high honors in 1979. He has also received a designation as a Certified Protection Professional with ASIS International and has been named a lead auditor for ISO 28000 supply chain security. Mr. Wimmer remains an active member of ASIS International where he has lectured around the world. He was notably recognized as an honorary life chair of its Taiwan chapter. He is also active in the U.S. State Department's Overseas Security Advisory Council, where he has spoken, and has been a speaker and regular attendee of the annual U.S. Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT).
