NORTHPORT, NY, January 12, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Morrell has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After graduating with her master's degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Albany, where she received a full federal scholarship, Dr. Morrell began her career with the Department of Corrections in Albany, where she worked for two years. Subsequently, she gained valuable expertise with a drug prevention program before joining a research and evaluation agency in Chicago, Illinois. In the ensuing years, she moved to Long Island and began teaching criminal justice courses, which led to a full-time position as a criminal justice professor at St. Joseph's University where she remains today. Over the years, Dr. Morrell expanded on her professional knowledge, earning a PhD in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University.

In the years since obtaining her doctoral degree, Dr. Morrell has established the college's criminal justice department and designed and authored the degree and program which includes 5 specialty tracks. She created and continues to head the Criminal Justice Internship Program, which places students in over 40 agencies throughout Suffolk County. The program is recognized as an evidence-based best practice and provides students with transformational experiential learning. As a pedagogical innovator, she implemented the Inside-Out program at St. Joseph's University, through which students study with inmates at the Suffolk County Riverhead Correctional Facility. Alongside her teaching responsibilities, as Chair of the Department, Dr. Morrell manages the department's budget, curricular design, extracurricular program design, assessment, hiring and evaluation, and ensures that the department meets all the requirements set by New York State and the university. She is recognized as a dynamic post-secondary professional, academic director, faculty and student leader, as well as an authority for juvenile justice correctional programs and reentry solutions. She has earned several faculty development grant awards.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Morrell maintains affiliation with the American Society of Criminology and the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. In conjunction with her work, she contributes to her community through the local Garden Club, and various animal rights and welfare organizations.

While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Morrell takes the most pride in founding the Criminal Justice Department at St. Joseph's University. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to her drive to keep moving forward despite any obstacles in her way. Although she was initially unsure of her life's path, she realized women were capable of great things after attending a women's college in Boston. Looking toward the future, Dr. Morrell intends to continue doing what she loves while making a positive impact in the community and leaving a legacy at the university. In the near future, she will take a group of students to Germany to learn about the country's rehabilitative approach to corrections in the wake of the Holocaust.
